Leaky diesel tanks

LINK

I'm guessing the department knew it was a problem, but declined to spend $75 out of their 83 million dollar rainy day fund to fix it. Don't worry, now Mitch will sign a 750,000 contract to fix it.

And they're only fixing shite now because everyone found out about everything that's broken/missing.

This is also a product of Mitch Landrieu's criminal negligence.

It's gonna cost him 100k just to clean up the spill.

It's going to get a lot worse before it gets better

don't stop there. keep looking. take a look at the RTA. The housing authority. the ethics review board. the city planning commission. the board of zoning adjustments. and on and on. Can you imagine the skeletons you'd find if you started looking and looked everywhere?

They planned on replacing the tank a couple of years ago but didn't. Also, the fuel tank is actually a rail tanker car that they buried in the ground....over 80 years ago. Not surprising that it leaked. Now this is a remediation job that will increase costs.

I've seen these so many times. Buried riveted rail cars are an expensive disaster, especially in an area where the water table is so high.

But, it says it's a million gallon tank surrounded by a dike, so there's no way it's a buried rail car.

And guess what? The Office of the Inspector General just experienced "unexpected budgetary restrictions" and were unable to make hires in their department. The jobs that got axed? Forensic auditor positions. I don't believe this is a coincidence. The last thing they want is fraud auditors snooping around.

It wasn't an uncommon practice back in the day.

I am an internal auditor. I am assuming the internal auditors for the SWB and other entities get paid under the table?
