I've dipped for close to 15 years and have decided to try to quit. I'm about 30 hours tobacco free right now, which is the longest I've been in at least 6 years. I am a cranky son of a bitch right now though and all I can think about is hopping in the car and going to get a can of snuff. When do the cravings subside? I have sunflower seeds and herbal snuff to help the physchological aspect of the addiction, just curious when I should expect to stop craving it altogether

The worst is the first 24 hours, 3 days, and the end of the week. It is still pretty bad for three months. After that you should be fine.

I dipped for 15 years. I quit 6 years ago and i still get the urge to dip.

At first it was bad the first month. After that the urge would come and go. Still today if i get around someone that dips Copenhagen and i smell it the urge comes back at that moment.

3 days usually. Get an e-cig bro. Low nicotine level if you're trying to quit.

It took 4 days for the worst physical cravings to subside. I felt like Beelzebub left my body at the 4 day mark. Three weeks for the mental cravings to subside. Once I put them down, I never had another one-and that was 18 years ago. Stick with it.

I smoked for 15 years - dropped down to only when I was drinking for the last 5 years or so, then I quit going to smoke clogged bars. Haven't had a cig in 8 months now. Every so often I'll get the craving but i'll kill it with peppermint gum or sunflower seeds.

I smoked for 35 years. Quit 5 1/2 years ago cold turkey. I recall the first 3 days being tough craving the nicotine, but I wanted to quit, so I was able to overcome.

I've never been addicted to anything other than caffeine.

What I've read suggests your cravings should peak in a few days, then subside after a couple of weeks. Generally, the nicotine will have left your system by 21 days. Residual cravings will be psychologically based, tied to both you missing the habit (sunflower seeds, pistachios, chewing gum, etc., should help that) and environmental/social triggers.

I would get a stop watch. When a "no shite" craving hits - start the stop watch - it should subside within 10 to 15 minutes - although they will get more intense and closer together as you pass the crisis point - you will at least have something to focus on - other than fixing.

And remember, almost no addict has ever died from nicotine withdrawal - they've killed others, but never died from their own lack of nicotine.

In all seriousness - good luck and G-d bless.

There is never a good time to kick a stimulant - you just have to do it. Remind yourself that the habit itself was a self-imposed stress that you're doing something about now. The nicotine itself doesn't relieve stress - it's a stimulant, so it causes stress - the only stress it "relieves" is the stress caused by kicking the stimulant.

You started it - you can stop it - but stopping is tougher. Strength is a choice (ETA: as is weakness).

Good call on trying to quit. I've tried before but only made it maybe a day before I caved. Maybe you'll have more will power.

This. I stopped dipping 3 weeks ago. I have an e-cig with a wintergreen flavored juice (I dipped Grizzly wintergreen) and some Smokey Mountain non-tabacco dip and it's been a pretty smooth process. I still have cravings but they're very negligible.

One week and I quit smoking cold turkey. Only time cravings came back was when I drink beer, which is all the time. Naturally, I started smoking again but quit for 6 months without much effort.

I quit 2 years ago. Today I was listening to the radio and Blake Shelton sang "chew tobacco chew tobacco chew tobacco spit" and I almost pulled into 7 eleven and caved in.
