This guy wins Mardi Gras 2016

He's a friend of mine from Atlanta who spends a lot of time here. He does it up for Mardi Gras every year but this is far and away his most popular costume. Standing next to the evangelicals takes it up a few notches.

At least his last name's not in there...unless it's Jesus.

does he win or did he go entirely out of his way to make a stupid point to people he could have just ignored and walked by?

nice.
On a related note, despite living in NOLA most of my life I have pretty much never gone downtown for Mardi Gras weekend. It always seemed like too much of a hassle. Recently a good friend of mine moved downtown, so this year it wasn't as much of a hassle because at least I have a home base.
We wandered around a good bit on lundi gras and god damn are the evangelicals usually out with this much force? That pretty much seemed like the craziest part of the crowds. They even had this whole human megaphone Jesus chant going on. A bunch of people with to scale replicas of crosses. Nuts, man.

You usually see them out and about on Bourbon during random times of the year, but it ramps up during Mardi Gras. I was out there Friday and people were throwing shite at them.
Best just to ignore them and not give them the satisfaction.

I go downtown most years, but I avoid Bourbon. Royal is nice on MG day. I stayed in this year, though.

Yeah, saw him on the Bourbon St cam that was linked here yesterday. I chuckled.

If you ignore those religious fanatics they'll eventually go away. It's when people think that they have to make an edgy statement to combat them that they get their fuel to keep coming out.

Seriously, though, he first used this costume a few years ago and walked up and down St.Charles. He was a bit worried about the family environment and thought he'd catch more shite from people but turned out everyone loved it. However, his wife, dressed as Mary, walked a few steps behind him...
Going downtown to mess with the evangelicals was just a bonus.
