I hate flux. I can't agree with you more on the shielding gas setup. Not sure if the OP wants to get the whole tank setup and everything though. The Dad might get frustrated with the spatter and trash that the flux spits out though.

OP, if your dad is welding thin gauge type metal a tig setup may be better. More money and more skill involved though.

Guys, I really appreciate the help. I'm going to look at all of the options. I think the Lincoln 140 will be what he needs, but I'll be looking hard at the Millers as well. I know they are both good machines though. Again, I really appreciate it.

By the way, that's pretty damned cool to get your Dad a welder for Father's Day. Extremely useful and he'll get tons of enjoyment out of it. Good job

LIncoln rebate

Check this out. 140 is on the rebate program, I know Airgas honors this and probably any other major welding supply company. You can get your dad a nice machine and two weeks later he'll have a 180 dollar auto darkening hood show up at his door

I agree-that's outstanding of you to hook your Pop's up with a mig rig that you know he will use. Advice on the hood-auto dark as you said his eyes are getting worse.

He's worth it. Plus I'll get some use out of it too
