Completely agree. HR is there to protect the business, not to protect you. The only time I would think about going to HR is over legit sexual harassment, but honestly leaving the company and moving on would still probably be the best option.

I would imagine that if we had less Tigerdroppings we'd all get more done.

I work in safety and I always find it funny when you will sit in a meeting with the salesmen or project managers and they spout how they are always working safely and will never put anyone in harms way. Then you show up unannounced to a job site and start handing out citations because you smell bullshite from a mile away.

You are a shitty safety guy. Safety guys are supposed to teach people how to do things safely not just bust their balls. But if its a repeat offender give them the citation.

I don't bust their balls actually I give them plenty of chances, but when I walk onto a site and I have people climbing 12 and 14 feet without fall protection who have been through 4 years worth of MSHA/OSHA classes, then yea I am going to issue a citation. Most of the time it is my foremans that are doing it which in turn makes the other workers think they can get away with it.

I was sexually harassed by my boss (a male), and I talked to an HR lawyer. he said, don't go to HR.

He said you don't have enough to sue. He said find a new boss or quit. I found a new boss.

Trust me young job force OT'ers this is a very important one. Never ever ever initiate a call to HR. Believe me they are not there to help.

A mass layoff is taking place. Employee goes talk with manager who doesn't just assure him his job is safe, he tells employee he will be moved into a new role in which he will become salaried. Then tops off the conversation with "as long as the company is running, you will have a job so you don't have to worry about your job status after each project" Two months later, when the last round of layoffs were taking place manager calls employee in office to inform him he is being laid off. Does this fall under what you are looking for in this thread?

For a small business, "Things are pretty tight right now" when talking about raises, while owners are jet setting all over the world and rolling up in a new high end luxury cars every year.

Its the complete opposite working for corporations. There could be accurate rumors going around that the bottom is falling out and the CEO/President will send out an email explaining to everyone "We understand some of you are concerned about the status of our company. While we had an unexpected problem, I can assure you it has been resolved and times have never been better at this company". Three days later the stock drops 30 points, higher ups start resigning..

Well Chicken told us that you were a good poster. Every Admin laughed because we know that it is not factually correct.

Serious question (for anyone): why would a straight white male ever need to go to HR?

This is the case in healthcare/dental offices (as my friends tell me) and certainly in veterinary offices where one is the doc and the spouse is the office manager.

I avoid those like the plague. Did an initial phone interview once with a vet that owned a practice where his wife helped out as an assistant "sometimes" and his mom was the office manager. No thanks!

When the owner of a family owned business is a psycho and curses you out in front of customers and subordinates and pushes people and kicks rocks at your personal vehicle. Miltiple times. All while customers are happy and production and safety are great.

TBH I went to HR to make sure I was getting paid my accumulated sick time and PTO when I quit and was questioned why I was leaving.
