Ross Bridge is SWEET

Yeah. I'm trying to line up a golf trip to do Oxmoor Valley and Ross Bridge.
Wow, haven't heard much about the Shoals. What's the deal there? Is it long? Mentally challenging? What?
ETA: are you talking about the Fighting Joe at the Shoals?

The Auburn course is tooooooough.
The two Birmingham area courses (Oxmoor Valley and Ross Bridge) are really good.
I own property near the Dothan course and that's the one I've played the most. I enjoy that one, too.

Yeah I've played Grand National. Excellent courses but tough. Short course was awesome.
I wouldn't mind playing Highland Oaks, but The Dothan site is so much further away from all the other sites.
I'm saving it as a stopover trip when I head east.
Hoping to play them all before I'm old and decrepit

Yes, the Fighting Joe and Schoolmaster. You've got strong winds on the Joe bc it's links style and right on the river. It has carnoustie rough about 5 yards off the fairways. Just a few snippets from when I was a member:
I remember hitting my driver into 2 par 3's on the Schoolmaster.
I hit a 5 iron from 150 into the wind about pin high.
There is a 720 yard par 5.
I normally played the tips or the next up and both courses are 8000+ from the tips.

got an annual membership to rtj a month ago ... home course is oxmoor ... they're all pretty good ... grand national is generally viewed as the best, i believe ... either that or ross ... looking forward to checking out all of them ...

Yep.
My first trip to RTJ was at Magnolia Grove, and I was hooked. Did Grand National the next year.
Now this coming spring I want to do a week vacation and hit two stops. I've got it narrowed down to three choices...
1. Capitol Hill (Prattville) & Cambrian Ridge (Greenville)
2. Oxmoor Valley & Ross Bridge (Birmingham)
3. Silver Lakes (Anniston/Gadsden) & Hampton Cove (Huntsville)

Ross Bridges is awesome

Did magnolia, Cambrian, and Capitol Hill last year.
This year we just set up shop and played all three at Capitol Hill twice each. They were all in outstanding shape.
Next year we are doing oxmoor valley and Ross bridge.

I love the Capital Hill Golf course in Prattville

Ranking the sites imo:
1. Cambrian Ridge, Greenvile
2. Grand National, Opelika
3. Magnolia Grove, Mobile
4. Capitol Hill, Prattville
And the rest.
Really, all are quality courses that are in great condition. But I really want to emphasize the quality of the Sherling/ Canyon 9's of the Greenville course. The course is in the middle of nowhere, but I really believe this is the strongest and most breathtaking 18 on the trail. It just doesn't get its fair share of accoloades, due to the relative remoteness of it.
Second 18 to me is the Lake course at Grand National. Doesn't play super long, but a great variety of holes. Risk/reward shots everywhere.
Links is 3rd best 18, and the Judge in Prattville is 4th best. I'm not too fond of the two other courses in Prattville, but the Judge makes it worth the stop. Sort of a weak finishing hole, imo, but otherwise a great course with water on many holes. #1 is a great starting hole, best of the trail. I chose Magnolia Grove in Mobile as my 3rd best site, since both the full 18's are super courses, but neither has any real elevation changes and standout holes. But overall, the better site.
The rest of the courses to me are all OK, but just don't quite live up to the ones i mentioned.

I kinda want to save Capitol Hill for the Finale.
How was Cambrian Ridge?
Leaning hard toward Oxmoor/Ross Bridge, but I want to do my homework on Gadsden/Huntsville

Yeah I love the Falls course at Magnolia Grove.
I made a sick 15-20 footer for birdie on the waterfall hole (either 10 or 11).
I dream about that putt all the time.
In fact, when my putting fell to shite a few years ago, I switched back to the putter that I made that putt with. It seemed to have cured me.

I play hampton cove a lot. Decent track, but probably the worst on the trail. Played the shoals courses from the tips a few weeks back, they are 8000 yards each. Really like those two courses

Fighting Joe has 1 715 yd par 5, a couple over 600 and a short par 5 at 590.
Most of the par 3s are 230+.
Great layout and fun to play.
