quote:

The Mandela Effect is a colloquial name for an instance wherein a group of individuals all mis-remember the same detail or event. The effect derives its name from the fact that many people seem to have a memory of Nelson Mandela dying prior to his actual 2013 demise. The effect first came to prominence when Internet discussion raged over the correct spelling of the name "Berenstain" in regards to the popular book series The Berenstain Bears; a sizable group of individuals claimed that they distinctly recalled the name having been spelled "Berenstein", with an "e" appearing instead of an "a". Some individuals have even taken this discrepancy as proof of parallel universes and as a vindication of certain quantum physics-related theories.[1][2] Andrew S. Friedman, a National Science Foundation (NSF) postdoctoral fellow at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), argues that the effect is really caused by fallible human memories, and that the notion that it is related to quantum physics is unfounded.[2]

I just wanted to point out an interesting thing I just noticed. I went to LinkedIn and just out of curiosity, I typed in "Berenstein Bears", and 23 people have them listed on their LinkedIn resumes. From graphic artists to producers to game designers.
How can so many people, who are close to these characters from having worked on them in some way, have it wrong on their professional online resumes?
On the other hand, when I type in "Berenstain Bears", only 1 hit comes up. For Mike Berenstain who now publishes the books. (There are a few companies related to Berenstain Bears, but no other people)

A few others I stumbled across were:

Froot Loops / Fruit Loops
Interview with the Vampire / Interview with a Vampire

The "correct" ones are in bold, I thought they both were the others.

Anyone have any of these?

This is so dumb. The only reason anyone thinks it was "Berenstein" was because how everyone pronounced it. At a very young age you recognize symbols, logos, art and take it for granted without reading it. The same goes for "Froot Loops." When's the last time you were driving down the highway and saw a Burger King sign and had to read "Burger King" to know that's where you can get a cheeseburger?

People pronounce things and say titles wrong all the time. "Interview with a Vampire" sounds right over "with the" anyway.

So you were a stupid child who couldn't spell with a bad memory.

Any more mysteries?

You don't remember Froot Loops using the fricking cereal for the letters?

I don't remember it being Berenstain either. But I probably just don't fricking remember correctly.

Even the people who worked professionally on the book?

I didn't make up Froot loops, I just found a few examples of common Mandela Effect topics and posted them here.

I'll say this, I probably would have sworn up and down that it was Berenstein if you just asked me before all this came out. But I always pronounced it "Beren-stain" so I guess that wins out in the end.

I swear it was spelled Berenstein simply because I used to wonder whether it was pronounced steen, stain, or stein.

I would've only pondered that if it was spelled stein rather than stain. Stain is pretty straightforward when it comes to pronunciation.

I didn't even think the second E existed. I thought it was Bernstein.

“You need to look up the Berenst#in Bears problem.”

It was this innocent comment left on a post about parallel universes that first pulled Rob Schwarz of Stranger Dimensions into one of the internet’s strangest theories. It involves The Berenstein Bears, a loving family of anthropomorphized bears who taught children life lessons via hundreds of picture books and two TV shows. But the problem is they aren’t The Berenstein Bears, they’re The Berenstain Bears.

Though a startling number of people remember the name as BerenstEin, it’s in fact spelled BerenstAin, just like the authors Stan and Jan Berenstain. But is it possible that so many people are just wrong about the title? Back in 2012, blogger Reece offered up another explanation: Some of us have recently crossed over from a parallel universe.

He argues:

… at some time in the last 10 years or so, reality has been tampered with and history has been retroactively changed. The bears really were called the “BerenstEin Bears” when we were growing up, but now reality has been altered such that the name of the bears has been changed post hoc.

Somehow, we have all undergone a p/2 phase change in all 4 dimensions so that we moved to the stAin hexadectant, while our counterparts moved to our hexadectant (stEin). They are standing around expressing their confusion about the “Berenstein Bears” and how they all remember “Berenstain Bears” on the covers growing up.

Those who remember the name as “Berenstain” are native to this “A” Universe, while those who are sure it’s “Berenstein” traveled over from the “E” Universe.

I was going to bow out of this theory until I saw the linked in.com results.

Probably because "Bernstein" is a common surname and it makes more sense to the brain for the name to end in "ein."

I did think it was Interview With A Vampire, though.

Another "Mandela effect" exists for people who think he was a great revolutionary hero instead of a murdering communist piece of shite.

A quick search of you tube reveals it is berenstain bears. It is easy for kids (who were the target audience) to mispronounce names, esp. when -stein is more common ending to a last name than -stain.

This misnomer is evidence of a parallel universe?
gtfo
BTW, who ever heard of jewish bears?

a google/youtube search doesnt prove anything.

the theory: whenever the alternate timeline crossed into this one, all Berenstein material was retroactively swapped with Berenstain, and visa versa. This includes books, the cartoon, etc.

The weirdest part to me still is all the actual people who worked on the books listing on THEIR resumes on linkedin.com as worked on Berenstein Bears. Nothing comes up for Berenstain except for the author himself.

Which is more likely based on what you know about the world:

1.) 6+ billion people and a planet swapping/crossing a dimension?
2.) a lesser amount of people misremembering something from childhood?
3.) graphic artists being dumb/lazy after working on something for a short time?

I'm going to go with numbers 2 and 3 with none of number 1.
