Taken from Jalopnik/Foxtrot Alpha. Neat article about the USAF bring a B52 back from the boneyard in Arizona. It's new home is at Barksdale AFB.

Yes. We brought that jet out of the boneyard to replace one that got severely damaged by fire in a ground mishap. It would have cost about $40 million dollars to fix the damaged jet and only about $13 million to bring this one out of the boneyard. The aircraft in question, serial number 61-0007, was sent to the boneyard without several major upgrades the B-52 has seen over the last 10 years. The damaged jet had those upgrades, so the upgrade parts from the damaged jet will be transferred to 61-0007. After that is complete, 61-0007 will go through a full Programmed Depot Maintenance (PDM) cycle where they tear the jet down to bare bones, do a lot of inspections, fix issues not able to be addressed in the field, and have an extensive "re-wiring" done to the electrical wiring through the aircraft. A fresh paint job is part of PDM for every jet and this one will be get that as well. We expect this jet to be permanently back in the fleet by next fall.

Yeah, I'm in south east shreveport and see them all the time. Bummer the a-10's aren't around anymore. They always gave me a sense of safety

Don't know where in north Bossier you're talking about, but it is likely that you are seeing jets in the traffic pattern for Barksdale. If you are familiar with the water tower on Benton Road north of I-220, that is about the Final Approach Fix for the ILS approach to Runway 15 at Barksdale. We cross the that point at 1800 feet above sea level (about 1600 feet above the ground). Also as a point of reference, at that point we are only flying about 160 Knots.
With that last bit in mind, imagine seeing a BUFF fly a real low-level route at 500 feet above the ground at 360 Knots!

They ripped that article from one John Andrew Prime wrote for The Shreveport Times. He is one of the last real reporters in the state, and he covers Barksdale regularly.

About 10 years ago I was hiking with a group in the White Mountain National Forest and we had just reached the peak of Cannon Mountain. We decided to break and have lunch, and then we started to hear a loud noise. We kept looking for the source, but couldn't see anything. Then, an A10 flew BELOW us and hugging the mountainside. I vividly remember looking down into the cockpit. Evidently the Western Mass. National Guard likes to use the area for training as the terrarian is similar to parts of Europe.

That's awesome. I love me some A-10s. P-51 is my all time favorite.
