even though some are starting to be swallowed up by this crap (ferguson is technically a suburb), they have been a godsend for many families and individuals who simply want to have a peaceful home where their family can feel safe.

This is especially true for recent immigrants from east asia and india. Here in south orange county, with so many exurbs, we have become friends with so many of these families- families who had grandfathers and grandmothers who owned shops in the concrete jungles and just got sick and tired of the shite and violence.

Thomas Jefferson was a prophet when it came to the growth of inner cities:
quote:

"The mobs of great cities add just so much to support of pure government as sores do to the strength of the human body,"

frick people who think suburbs and exurbs have been a net negative for america. I don't give a shite if it threatens diversity.

The sad thing is that our cities used to be the jewels of the republic, and they have been reduced to rubble by Democrats.

Cities were the hot thing until about 2011. Now people are going back to the burbs.

You are not all that well educated on the trends in many cities if you really believe this.

Just popping in to say that suburbs will be ghettos in the not to distant future. Enjoy.

I like suburbs and all, but you do know that affluent people are moving back into cities as we continue to become more urbanized? And guess what? While there are still problems, and despite maybe a slight increase in crime last year, the trend is still downward and MUCH better than it was even a decade ago.

By the way, do you ever notice that you're overly emotional and have a tendency to overreact, at least on this site?

I think you're quite mistaken.

U.S. Census data released Thursday provides strong support for the latter thesis—that shifts in where Americans move were merely temporary, according to analysis by Jed Kolko, a senior fellow at the Terner Center for Housing Innovation at the University of California, Berkeley.

For one thing, the rate at which Americans are moving to the suburbs is once again outpacing the rate at which they are moving to cities. That picks up on a decades
long trend that only very temporarily reversed during the recession.

Well, America from 1978-2008 was going through a conservative phase and a lot of people, especially young people (who were conservative at that time), were drawn to the suburban life and exurban life.

Young Americans today are so far to the left and so they are naturally more attracted to living in huge urban centers.

According to the last census, city growth slowed since the housing crisis and the burbs, and even further out, were outpacing city growth

Urban counties grew by 0.8% in 2015 to roughly 77 million people, compared with suburban counties, which grew by nearly 1% to 159 million people. Mr. Kolko defines counties as urban based on how dense they were as of the 2010 census.
Well besides the flaws in looking at it from a county perspective, this still shows that cities are growing, and similarly to the suburbs.

The cities didn't go out of "fashion" like you stated. Besides, when there was white flight, urban populations contracted. This is nothing like that.
