CHANNELVIEW, Texas -- A number of Channelview ISD teachers are being disciplined after naming a student “most likely to become a terrorist.”
“They just found it as a joke,” said 7th grader Lizeth Villanueva.
She got the certificate during a mock awards ceremony this week at Anthony Aguirre Junior High. Lizeth says the teacher who signed it handed out certificates to a number of students while other teachers watched and laughed.
“She said that some people might get offended, but she doesn’t really care about our feelings," Lizeth said. “She was laughing about it.”

As I'm sure it was intended. This is probably the most well-behaved, smartest kid in the class, since that is how these joke awards usually go.
Weird this is news. "Jokes are made in school, good times had by all."

The world needs more teachers like this.

Sounds like some of my old teachers.

That quote came from the kid that received the "award," if I'm reading this right.

Maybe I'm not reading it correctly. I thought "they" and "she" meant the students and herself.

I have no problem with poking fun and making jokes; however, a level of taste should be involved...especially in today's social media world.
I mean, a terrorist just blew up a bunch of kids in Manchester earlier this week. Seems expected that something like this would piss off the parents and get the teachers in trouble.

Most of them are professional baby sitters.

That's a good way to create a little terrorist

Not sure how anyone could think this was a good idea

People have no sense of humor. Lighten up people.
It's going to be a long miserable life if you take everything so seriously.

30 years ago, this would have never made the news. 30 years ago, most people had a sense of humor. Those who didn't were hermits and kept their non-social ability hidden. THEY were the ones who were offensive. Now society bows to the weak and small minded.
Pretty damn cool for Lizeth. It was a joke and it was taken as a joke....Now there will likely be backlash from people who were not even involved.
Society sucks! If you are one of those kind of people who get offended by OBVIOUS jokes like this, frick you! (I hope that offended you also) You show a lack of social skill and maturity. You deserve to be "offended". Your life will likely be miserable.

if its in jest i think there's way better things we can fake outrage over

There is a reason teachers only make a minimum amount of money. Their judgement isn't sound enough to run a business. This should be evident by the number of skanks banging their students.
