Police are investigating after a teenager was hit and killed by a train in Franklin on Thursday morning.

The Franklin Police Department said they received a call around 9:45 a.m. from a CSX train engineer who said he thought the train hit a pedestrian.

The victim's family told police he left home a short time before the accident to walk to a nearby business where his girlfriend was working. Investigators determined he had stereo ear buds in his ears and was walking with his back to the train when he was struck.

Darwinism doesn't apply to everyone now? Learn something new everyday.

Where did this kid get the idea that walking in train tracks while not paying attention to his surroundings was a good idea? I would have maintained an awareness of my surroundings if I was walking on or beside the tracks.

It takes several miles for a train to stop.

His head phones must have been blaring at top volume for him to not hear/feel the train approaching.

I'm sure he did see him. But trains take a long time to stop.

quote:

The average freight train is about 1 to 1¼ miles in length (90 to 120 rail cars). When it's moving at 55 miles an hour, it can take a mile or more to stop after the locomotive engineer fully applies the emergency brake. An 8-car passenger train moving at 80 miles an hour needs about a mile to stop.

It's pretty safe to say he didn't heed Johnny Cash?
