That's probably the best thing posted this week. If there is any provenance established on where it washed up from, and how it got to PCola, keep us updated. I've seen some gnarly metal stuff from the Napoleon age that is shiny and chrome, so it can be cleaned up, the question will probably be how much it costs.

That’s pretty cool, hopefully the people get to keep it if it’s authentic. Lack of rust on the blade does seem off.

As long as it is submerged, it won't rust. It's when it's exposed to air after being in saltwater that rust occurs.

So, it floated along for a couple of days before OP found it? I wouldn't figure steel would spend a lot of time exposed to air in the ocean. It's pretty corroded, but I'm not going to argue with you based on user name.

Look at this chode thinking there is no oxygen dissolved in the ocean.

Looks like bacon is wrapped around it.
I could be just fat, hungry and love bacon.

Finds like these are worth braving the rip tide

That’s pretty cool. The scabbard is fricked but the hilt and grip look like a civil war cavalry sword my dad has. Dumbass that found it needs to get it to a professional before it wastes away.
They’ll probably throw it in the Yeti.

Metals under the sea long term are more likely to rust than not.

Pensacola used to have a Pirate Festival. Probably some drunk dropped it in the water a few years ago
