That video is funny because it's true. I cannot figure out why certain people will defend this breed. We've had other breeds which were capable of killing but rarely did so. Then this mutant breed pops up and rockets to the top of some very disturbing statistical categories

Pit bulls can go frick themselves and I will never have one, nor will anyone in my inbred family.

Just sent the link to a pit bull owner.

Is that Jersey Shore Vinny at the end? If so, it just got 10x funnier.

The writer of this short has been exposed to many pitbull owners. That was spot on and hilarious.

That was awesome. It will be sure to rustle some jimmies on social media.

I own a pitbull (technically I think it's an American Staffordshire), and that was funny as hell. It drives me fricking crazy when someone says I rescued it. frick off, you adopted it. You didn't pull it from a burning building.
I also don't believe the saying
"it's not the breed, it's how you raise it."
I've never met a friendly chow. Pitbull breeds became a victim of their own popularity. A lot of shitty breeders inbreed them, making many dogs that are too unstable for the average owner.
Sure, all of Michael Vick's dog that weren't killed, became service dogs. It's a heartwarming story. But they weren't given to Joe Blow. They were given to people that were highly trained to rehabilitate animals. And those dogs were probably very well bred dogs that he had, not an inbred beast that some redneck or hoodrat is going to get.
I love my dog, and look forward to another decade with her. I believe mine is naturally sweet. But that's just like a canvas, you can do what you want with it.
From 3 months to about a year, I brought her everywhere I was allowed. I took her to about a dozen music festivals in and around Nola (T-Bois was particularly good for dogs). I brought her to bars and throughout the French Quarter. I'd take her to the dog park 3-4 times a week. I currently have her in a class with the Humane Society called "curb your enthusiasm" to help break her of her only noticeably bad habit, jumping for a kiss. It's been a lot of work and often a pain in the arse. But I'm glad I did it.
Pits are illegal in many places in Denver and the suburbs. I have friends scared of them, and have told me they never thought they'd meet a sweet pitbull. So I'm glad mine has changed people's opinions and perceptions. But you have to be realistic. This isn't the early twentieth century, where pitbulls are considered the all American family dog (which they were).
Assholes took a general purpose farm dog, and tried to turn it in to a protector, which isn't what they have natural instincts to do. And if they develop protective tendencies, they are going to be dangerous. But technically, any large breed could have the same problem. All it takes are enough rednecks and hoodrats wanting a breed, and that breed will suffer the same fate.
But anyone says that all dogs are good dogs are full of shite or stupid. They have personalities like humans. And if you aren't a strong, consistent owner, there's a good chance even a naturally sweet dog will be a problem.

There's also the Pitt bull's massive jaws and tenacity that will make the bite worse than other dog bites.
And I think they might be more prone to "pack mentality" where if one dog gets upset or excited they all do and it escalates from there. Which is why I think it's much safer to own one well-trained pitbull like yours than several.

What I think is crazy is the whole, "I take it around babies all the time!!!," thing. That doesn't mean your pit bull is amazing, it means you're a pretty careless person. I don't think every pit bull is evil. I don't think 99.9% of them are evil. But, I do believe that just about every single pit bull has it in them somewhere, to go nuts for a moment. Because of that, letting them play with babies is ridiculous.

As a mom, I hate those dogs. When I am out with my 1 and 3 year old, I panic if I see one. They are just too powerful for someone my size to fight off. I will never be able to understand why someone would want a dog like that. Your dog may be friendly, but I don't know that. What I do know is that I lack the physical strength to save my children if it attacks.

The whole locking jaw thing is pure myth. They don't have any stronger bite pressure than other dogs of the same size.
Now tenacity, that's very true. They truly give 100% effort at whatever they do. They will do whatever it takes to complete their task, fighting through pain or exhaustion. That's something you can't train away. They won't give up. You just have to redirect their focus to a positive task. That's why I joke about mine being an aggressive kisser. When she wants a kiss, she'll get it. That's why I have her in excitement training. But yes, their tenacity is can make them a more dangerous dog if you have a bad one.
As far as pack mentality goes, I don't know much shite their pack mentality tendencies. Mine is very social, and loves other dogs. But I also raised her to be a beta dog. It sucked punishing her when other dogs would attack her. But it's a necessity to keep her from developing alpha tendencies.
Pitbulls and Staffies are definitely known to have animal aggression. They naturally love people, but not other dogs. It takes a lot of socialization to keep this from being a problem. That, and it helps to have a naturally friendly dog to begin with. But you won't know that if you get them as a pup.
I think I got lucky and someone dropped of the litter runt at the pound. They advertised her as a Gaff, which is apparently a American Staffordshire show dog breeder. They often use them to help improve the bloodlines if they start having problems with the dog.

As a parent, you should be cautious of any dog that's greater than 50 lbs. Never assume a dog is friendly. American dogs no longer have the jobs they were bred to do. Now they are just house pets. This has made people really shitty dog owners and trainers. Amy untrained dog can and probably will be dangerous.
There's a reason small dogs ate often assholes. It's because people overlook bad things they do, because theyre less likely to cause any major harm. So people don't correct the bad behaviors, and they just get worse.
I got mine because when I went to the shelters in Nola, 95% of the dogs were pitbulls. I was actually hoping to find a mutt. But since the ones I'd met were generally outgoing, extroverted dogs. I figured I'd give one a chance. She did also act as a great deterrent to sketchy people in my neighborhood, but that wasn't the reason I got her.
And I'd try not to panic with any dog. Don't run, good your ground and stand firm and confident. You acting fearful makes the situation more dangerous.
Are you seeing them running loose, or on a leash?
