Looking to maybe making an offer on a house. It has a fully in ground steel wall swimming pool with a vinyl liner. Looks like a regular pool . Has anyone had experience with these? Advantages and disadvantages? He showed me the warranty. Lifetime warranty on the pool itself and a 20 year warranty on the liner . Local company that's been around a while.

That local pool company will be gone in 5 years, you can use that warranty for toilet paper.

Replace vinyl liner with polymer panels - if not, you risk more issues with water getting behind to rust the steel. Natural oxidation will always be an issue with the steel walls anyway.

Knock $10000 off your offer and call it even.

My parents had a pool like this for about 30 years. They had to replace the liner every 5-7 years (but my dad was a serial over chlorinator), you also occasionally have to replace your pump...all of the piping is under the grout bottom and beneath the sidewalk surrounding the pool. They never had any issues with the pipes. Other than the liners and pumps, they never had any maintenance issues with theirs.

If you get 20 years out of a liner then you have probably set some sort of record.

That is the type of pool I have. Previous owners had it installed. So our situations are similar.

I wouldn't expect to get 20 years out of liner. Maybe 10 if you choose highest mil rated liner.

My pool is small. Only 13k gallons. It isn't difficult to maintain. But it's something you do have to stay on top of. I probably spend 500 per year on chemicals.

What type of filter? Most likely will be cartridge or sand. Sand is cheaper requires less labor, but not as effective as cartridge. The cartridge filters aren't cheap. Throw another 250 per year.

That's a above ground pool that has been sunk in the ground. They are not made to do that because the walls will rust out over time then the pool will collapse. It's especially dangerous when it's time to change the liner.

You don't know what you are talking about. I worked for a pool company in college - we installed these steel walls in the ground. Poured concrete behind the walls.

Just make sure the warranty is transferable and you should be fine.

Did he mention there was concrete behind the wall? I installed above ground pools while in college and did service work. I do know what I'm talking about.

I don't think you do. They don't fill behind the walls completely, typically just a few inches to seal base of wall in. Definitely NOT an above ground pool that is buried.

Look bro I know for a fact people will sink a above ground pool, seen it many times. The OP may or may not have one and I really don't give a damn if does or doesn't.

So far you have shown zero clue what you're talking about other than you once did some labor.

Pools are really more trouble than they are worth.

I spend less than an hour per week on pool maintenance.

If I didn't use it for anything else other than jumping in occasionally while doing yard work, it would be well worth it.

this

but i spend probably 15-20 minutes per day on it.

as long as i give it some love EVERY SINGLE DAY i have zero problems.

if i ignore it 3-4 days shite goes downhill fast and you'll spend a hard couple of weeks getting it fixed particularly if algae takes hold.

i do everything myself and have gotten away with not closing it in the winter which is great because i don't have to play 'whats under the cover' in the spring when i pull it off.

pools, like a well-kept lawn, require a certain amount of maintenance, that just how it is.
