State song of Louisiana: it's inappropriate, change it

Ha ha... this has NOTHING to do with Confederate flags or anything like that.
More to do with the song, itself, and something that's better.
In case you don't know, if you Google "state song of Louisiana" you'll get "You Are My Sunshine" by former governor Jimmie Davis. Now, I remember as a very young kid the ubiquity of that tune down there in Louisiana, and I guess inasmuch as the Governor wrote it it was an OK choice for a while. The problem, though, is that outside the State the song doesn't really evoke thoughts of Louisiana. Youtube it and you'll find that all the choruses mentioning Louisiana have been stripped out, and the prevailing tune has nothing to do with us.
So, Hank Williams was born in Alabama... I get that... but he was also king of the Louisiana Hayride and there's no question that "Jambalaya" is THE song about Louisiana culture. And unlike Sunshine it's a happy tune that captures our festive spirit. It's about getting back to the State and is inseparable from it.
I'm feeling this way because I went to an outdoor concert here in Richmond a couple of weeks ago and the band broke into "Jambalaya" and I'm missing home.

well hell - I fully agree.
I never understood the "Sunshine" as the state song to begin with.

States are a quaint idea anyway.
They don't mean much anymore.
Not with the Federal leviathan dictating most of the terms.
You're just feeling sentimental.

Support. That song evokes thoughts La for me personally a lot more than "You Are My Sunshine."
Only drawback would be all the Gumps claiming that "they" wrote our state song.

Well, Garth ain't from Baton Rouge, either.

I got the chance to sit down and have a nice long chat with Governor Davis in the barber shop many years back as we were waiting to get our hair cuts, and he was a super cool guy. I disagree. He was a really good representative of this state. Keep his song as it is.

Hell yeah, Master P is a home boy and has some fat shite we could chage it to.

True. Neither is the guy who actually wrote the song. But they aren't Gumps, either. Brooks is an Okie and the other dude is from Texas. There is no one more likely to take personal credit for something that he had no hand in than a Gump.
Plus I don't think it enjoys any kind of official status and I don't really like it anyway. I like "Jambalaya." Still support, just pointing out one drawback.

That's actually not a bad idea.
But do we know how Hank Williams felt about the blacks?

Well, Jimmie Davis was a rabid segregationist so we might as well get "Sunshine" while we're at it.
Have to go with something by Satchmo to be safe.

Sorry Rex, that song is our tradition. You must hate our heritage.

Suck it, gumps. You are so boring one of your most famous sons chose to sing about us instead of you. We claim him as our own despite his accident of birth.

Only thing You are My Sunshine reminds me of

I wonder what the Thibodeaux's and Fontenot's feel about the issue.

The state song should be "Louisiana Saturday Night"

While I do appreciate the fiddle portions of that song, the rest of it... ugh.
