Apparently white people are "prestigious" in Chinese society. There was an episode of Vice a while back showing white people who had jobs in China basically to just be white. They hired a white guy to pretend he was a doctor for the opening of a new medical clinic - he just had to walk around and take pictures and give a speech that no one understood anyway. It was pretty amazing.

Where the hell do people get this information from? And why is the supposed cultural homogeneity a perfectly fine and reasonable excuse for racism? People know what they are doing. There are also very few culturally homogenous societies in the world. China in particular has been known to assimilate outsiders and invaders easily.
