This section 8 apartment complex was hit hard by the flood. The tenants have moved out and the place looks abandoned. No work has taken place since the flood. I'm hearing that it isn't going to be rebuilt. Could we really be that fortunate??? Anyone know anything?

If they aren't living at St. John, they will be living somewhere else paid for by you.

I'm guessing he love's to live near the homeless and crackheads because that's who will be occupying the abandoned property soon enough. You think they're going to demo all of that if they can't fix it?

There actually has been some work there. It does seem to have stopped recently. Pass by them every day bringing the kids to school. They are fenced off and always have someone there at the driveway to keep people out. It would be nice if they remodeled and upgraded and took it off the section 8 list.

They really got smashed by the flood. They were getting water an evacuating on Saturday afternoon before it got really really bad on Sunday morning.

You know that donut shop owner (whom the city finally killed over the widening of Oneal) would be happy if they smash those apartments.

Taking it off the section 8 list, upgrading the units and tenants would be a nice upgrade in surrounding property values too.

My aunt and uncle lived there when they first got married when St. Jean was brand new...That was a super nice place.

I knew it was section 8, but when did it turn into section 8?

Probably because Section 8 housing results in increased crime and decreased property values.

It was the first large "mixed" development in BR. Was built as very nice apartments, with a mix of market rate and section 8 tenants. While that is a nice idea, reality is that it is very difficult to maintain. Over time I guess the market rate git lower and lower and the proportion if section 8 got higher. It originally was built that way to take advantage of tax credits available for developments with a certain percentage of low-income housing in the development. I wonder if enough time has passed to make that requirement void?

I think it opened up as section 8, but there were non-entitled tenants living there too. My ex lived there when it was brand new too. It was nice because it was brand new. It took about 3-4 years for the Section 8 tenants to turn it into a ghetto.

I think you're right. Built in the late 90's I think.

Those apartments and all those duplexes at O'neal Lane and Harrells Ferry are symbolic of why you will never run from the NBR contingent. The government just takes over whatever they can and moves section 8 in. I can list a dozen other places like this in EBR parish.

If your zip code, area or parish is too affluent or nice it will eventually happen in some capacity.

Even though I didn't vote for the new mayor, this is exactly why I'm all for redevelopment in NBR. Hell, I would even pay 1/2 cent sales tax to redevelop NBR because that would automatically improve SEBR.

Jay is a dick. He yelled at me once for making too much noise when I was like 3 or 4. Never liked him after that.

Those donuts though.

I don't mean to hijack your thread baw but it reminded me of those apartments in Prairieville that are being built right by Bayou Manchac. There is a "US Department of Urban and Housing Development" board out front. Does that make it a Section 8 apartment complex?

If it is, that's probably where they are going to go.

15 years if they received federal tax credits to move it all to market rate.
