Of course that's how they spin it..

Not that they are unincorporated areas who get taxed to pay for amenities they don't receive because they are in the unincorporated areas.

The comments are actually pretty level headed compared to the article.

I feel like I couldn’t write a satirical article any better. Except this isn’t satire

yeah there is no way. These are the pics they used had me rolling

Baton Rouge (pictured)

St George (pictured) will become a separate city to Baton Rouge

And then today I learned that North Baton Rouge wasn’t already majority black until 2005:

After Hurricane Katrina, the city of Baton Rouge accepted over 200,000 displaced New Orleans residents, the majority of whom were black and settled in the northern, urban parts of the city

BET
Black Miss America
Etc, etc
I was under the impression that this was a thing that was acceptable.

On a serious note, only an uninformed lunatic would think St George "split".

Is central, Zachary and baker more desirable to make it a destination since their split?
St. George is in name only and doesn’t do one thing to make it a more desirable place to live over other great southern cities
Crime is not automatically solved by a split
Traffic is not gonna be better because of a split
Quality of life is not gonna all of a sudden improve

Well the Brits know a thing or two about people wanting to get away from their control and do their own thing…

It hits every false talking point made by opposition. Might be the worst one I have read about StG. Throws in a lot of words like split, partition, racism, separates, whites, blacks, and so on. Mentioned majority white and poor blacks over and over. Shows nice neighborhood for StG and the Triple S mart as the example of Baton Rouge.

Dumb arse who didn’t know he was never a resident of Baton Rouge or is just lying.
quote:

Another resident, Paul Brady, wrote: 'The segregationist won. I'm no longer a citizen of Baton Rouge. I now live in the white enclave of St George.'

Cormier is so full of shite. Detanglement?
quote:

M.E. Cormier, told the New York Times: 'There is no basis in fact that the existence of St. George is positive or will bring positivity or have a positive impact on any areas of the cities or the parish. 'The detanglement, logistically speaking, is going to be an absolute nightmare.'

It made BR and blacks look hopelessly pathetic, but I doubt that was intentional.

It also is just incorrect on non-political points.

decade-long court battle

quote:

The proposal didn't get enough votes and the movement ground to a halt until 2019, when a second ballot to incorporate St George passed, with 54 percent of residents voting in favor of separation.

Same thing happens there. Cockneys moved away from East London to Essex once Carribeans and Muslims started moving in. A lot of the posh people left West and South London to move to Surrey, Buckinghamshire, and Hertfordshire.

The genesis of the whole thing was a desire to form an independent school district separate from the failed and perpetually doomed EBR school system. If/when St. George creates a viable school system it ABSOLUTELY becomes a more desirable place to live simply because a family will have a realistic option of not having to pay private school tuition.

Looks like the article didn't yield what they are looking for. The comments are all in support of St.George. That's saying a lot for daily mail.
