My reason: I wanted to extend my life once I found out I was going to be a father.

I quit cold turkey in 2012, I realized if I smoked one more year, I would have smoked for more than half my life.

That was enough to get me to quit.

I don't smoke but I'd rather smoke a joe than those stupid hookah pens. People are so trendy and cool now.

never started...

As it turns out, smoking is really bad for you and makes you smell bad and makes you look like a catchers mit and makes your teeth brown and causes cancer and looks trashy as frick.

I quit about 15 years ago and I smoked well over a pack a day. The craving for a cigarette went away a long time ago and I now despise being near people who smoke.

Cigarettes make the smoker and everything around them stink.

1/2 pack/day smoker for maybe 10 years. Got stupid drunk one night and woke up with a 3-day hangover. I had wanted to quit for a time before that and figured it would be a good time while I was repulsed by cigarettes. I was young and stupid when I started. Wish I hadn't, but oh well. We all make mistakes.

I used to enjoy smoking but it eventually got to the point where I was miserable after every cigarette I smoked. I quit 2 years ago.

i only smoked for 2.5-3 years. and i wanted to quit for my own reasons, such as: a lot of my friends didn't/don't, i hated being the "he smells like smoke" guy, it's a waste of money, it ruins clothes, and i felt it was effecting my workouts (stamina & cardio). Not to mention it made me feel like a weak person to be addicted to something. a year later, i'm still struggling with nicotine cravings. I avoid tobacco all together, but get nicotine cravings still and use patches/gum to aid with that. I'm cutting those out as well and should be nicotine and tobacco free very soon.

my old lady hates all tobacco and nicotine, so that's an added factor in my motivation.

I use sunflower seeds and atomic fireballs to deal with the hand to mouth mental habit.

and causes cancer

It statistically increases the chances of developing cancer. It increases the odds in those who are already prone to cancer. There's a difference between the two. Smoking is horrible for you and by no means healthy but a lot of what you hear is propaganda... which is ironic for people who claim to be so smart buy right into what they are told.

Congrats on quitting.

Same here. Wife was pregnant with twins and couldn't stand me smelling like smoke. Plus I didn't want my kids to be raised around a smoker. I always thought it was trashy but never had a good reason to quit. My kids are now 10 and look at smokers like they are aliens, Dad is in better shape in his 40's than he was in his 20's and runs 20 miles a week (subtle). Win/win.
