I saw the one where the OP asked about Writing lines and i had to laugh because the struggle was real back in My Day (70's). What were some of the acceptable punishments allowed at your school? I'll give a few examples that i can remember as a kid at my small elementary school in Louisiana.
-------------------------------------------------

1) 1st grade -teacher would bring students up in front of the class have them hold out hands and have ruler and hit hands with ruler at least 5 times each.

2) 2nd grade - If student was talking teacher would walk up behind student grab hair and shake head at least 5 or 6 times before letting go.

3) PE teacher - grabs student by belt loop has a wooden paddle and spins him around by belt loop while beating with the paddle.

4) principle - If called to office would make you bend over pulled out this huge wooden paddle and would give you at least 5 good taps with it.

Anybody got anything similar? It is funny because never once saw a parent want to sue the school. The times have changed no doubt.

I agree thats why i wanted to see if we were the only kids getting beaten back in the day. Writing lines would have been a breeze

1st grade teacher made students stand in garbage can in corner of class room as "time out".

I had to once because I accidentally left my lunch box outside

This would be good for workplace discipline.

Born in 1969..........saw similar disciplinary tactics, and they worked very well by the way.

I would add, because there was absolutely no random talking in class back then, had a second grade teacher tape a girl's mouth shut.

the good old days

I'm 39, before each school year the teacher would send home a corporal punishment permission slip to parents, i would pray my mom wouldnt sign it. Principals back then would give out paddlings with a wooden paddle till I was in the 8th grade. I went to a pretty rough middle school, many times when morning announcements were being made someone was in the office getting thier arse tore up and you could hear it over the loud speaker.

When I was in lower elementary if you were talking or cutting up in class the teacher would put you out in the breezeway. Mr. Cherry, the principal, would walk by every 20 minutes or so with his paddle. If you were in the hall there was a 90% chance you were getting an arse whooping.

It's amazing me and 99% of my classmates grew up to be fine adults, all the while getting traumatized by those whoopings. Way less problems in school back then.

I always had the regular public school bs punishment. Lines, standing in a corner, loss of privelages.

My old co-worker had stories of sick shite the nuns would do to them. Holding on to monkey bars(not hanging) for an hour then when they let go all the blood would rush to their hands causing pain. If their shirts were untuck the nuns would make them tighten their belts as tight as possible and make them tuck and untuck the shirt repeatedly until their hands were raw. Putting bars of soap in their mouths for bad manners.

When I was in school, the really bad kids would get sent to the priest. They never talked about what happened, but most of them have serious mental problems today

This was common practice at my grade school.

If our whole class got into trouble, we all would have to walk outside and do the "chair." Meaning squat like we were sitting with our backs up against the wall and holding our arms straight out. After about 5 mins, your hams and quads were on fire.

I also got beaned in the head by an eraser by a teacher who was trying to hit another one of my classmates. Science teacher threw a fastball with the eraser.

Also saw the assistant disciplinarian actually choke a kid because he was misbehaving on the school bus.

Nuns, rulers, and knuckles. That was the holy trinity I remember.

We often got paddled with a thick, wood paddle. Some of the sadists would drill holes in them and sporterize them. One a-hole had one with a handle like a baseball bat so he could really get into it.

It was no mere "paddling" either. They would hit you as hard as they could. I probably had about a dozen sessions in grades 1-8. And I was a "good" kid with great grades.

The last time was for a truly trivial offense, and I (8th grade) told the guy it was not going to happen. Call my parents if you want, but you are not fricking touching me again. He dropped it completely.

I remember getting five "licks", as they called it, in about the 5th grade. They left distinct bruises in the shape of the paddle for several days.

It did not make me a better student. It just made me hate their guts and want to burn down their houses.

I was spanked a lot in grade school. It was completely ineffective as a deterrent to bad behavior. It didn't teach me why what I was doing was wrong. It basically taught me I could misbehave, and if I got caught i just had to put up with a couple of whacks to the hiney.

Now that I have kids I can't believe there was a time when parents let someone else lay a hand on their kids.
