Failures? Success stories? Was it worth it? I've been giving this a lot of thought recently. Of course that would mean I wouldn't have time to post on TD in the day which would be a win win for everyone :ZING!: :rimshot:

i wish i would have had the balls to start my own pharmacy.... or the capital.... either way, it'd be fun to be my own boss on the "work" side of things, but i'd hate/fear the "business" side....

Why not come up with a proposal and present it to a bank?

Yup and it was an epic failure, the housing market crashed about a year after I did and I lost an amount in the 6 figures.

Best thing I ever did... would not recommend that everyone do it however.

I quit my high paying sales job to go off and do my own thing 8 years ago. Best descision of my life. It was a very risky move but has paid off tremendously.

I did mortgages. It fricking sucked so badly, especially because my losses shouldn't have been anywhere near what they were but the bank I was working with declared BK while owing me 100k+ in commissions and that fricked me the most.

I went from a consulting firm, to a very big company. Now, that consulting firm wants me to come back and be the branch manager. Don't know wht to do, honestly.

I did.
For me, it was what I had to do because I did not enjoy the "corporate" mold.
It took at least 3 yrs to stabilize after enduring hardships. From there, opportunities increased tremendously. 20 yrs into self employment this year!

And yes, all great things are worth the time, dedication, study, practice, failure, and lack of sleep. Worth.

I did it.

Left a high paying, full partnership and upcoming appointment to the board of directors to start my own private practice.

It is awesome.

Job satisfaction has never been higher.

If you work really hard for someone else, they are always making more money OFF you than they are paying TO you.

Not complicated.

If you like to have free time and tend to jerk off at the office and come in late and leave early....do not do it.

Small business is for those of us who have a strong work ethic.

I wouldn't call it "high-paying" which is why I started my own firm.

I enjoyed it, but could not generate enough business. My field is incredibly crowded and if you don't have enough money to reach a critical mass of advertising, you might as well not try.

But, I definitely enjoyed being my own boss - for awhile.

It almost feels like we're in a similar industry structure. It could be finance/law/consulting/small tech. And that is the point. Because of where our firm is I get to come in late and leave early. I feel like I can create growth out on my own. Most of the partners are older and they only care about maintaining status quo.
