He told me I can go back to work (office desk job) in 6 weeks. As for exercise and activities like hiking, driving, or what not he pretty much said just whenever you feel well enough and you aren't on pain meds. Surgery technology has come so far it's crazy. Thanks for the advice mtntiger

From 2/3/10 til just a couple of months ago, I was 98% bed ridden. No sitting or standing for more than 5 min.
I am just realizing I can go places more than 2 min away. fricking awesome. UCSF..ASK FOR THEM. DR. Dahl.

Mom had it once
Dad had it once
one sister had it twice
another sister going in for her 2nd one

I am very familiar with this. It will be about two months before they release you to drive. Most of theirs were pretty bad and involved hardware being inserted though.

Don't think my Dr is making me do PT. Just wants me to walk as often as possible.
I'm starting to feel melodramatic after reading everyone's stories. Some people have had it way worse than me.

I think screws and bolts are the difference maker. Fusions and disc replacements also seem to be a big deal. Good luck to your fam!

The same Dr. has done most of them, whenever I am there he looks at me and say "your next" but I must have gotten the good back genes in the family.

I take everything with a grain of salt on this site. I can't even trust Larry Leo.

If you have insurance I'd recommend seeing an orthopedic surgeon for a consult. They'd likely give you a MRI and if they see trouble they would do epidural shots and PT before considering surgery. Contrary to popular belief, most doctors are not scapel happy.

They put me under at 10AM and I woke up in recovery at 2PM. I think I got up and walked around 3:30.

Pretty much my experience.
