Saw the bead thread, and I do think there's an absurd amount of generic plastic beads thrown. I do collect emblem beads. But the standard Chinese generic beads are a boring catch in 2016.

Mobile probably throws even more of the generic beads (they throw more stuff overall down there). Tons of them. But they also throw food. Peanuts, moon pies, cracker jacks, Little Debbie's of all varieties, hot fries, even the occasional liquor shot (though only in the black parades), and other candy/food.

Nola allows food in the St Patrick's day parade. Why no food during Mardi Gras? After a few hours of drinking and revelry, I love catching some peanuts.

I find catching the exact same things gets dull. Short of emblem beads, cups, or a unique throw (Zulu coconut, Muses shoe, etc), I end up giving all my stuff to random kids. It would be great if Nola mixed it up more.

Louisiana is fatter than Alabama. But I'm in Boulder, Colorado. The thinnest city in America and the thinnest state in America. But let's not get off track.

This is me putting my ladder up .5" from your spot, right up front, where I'm not eating anything thrown from a float in New Orleans.

I'll eat something wrapped. I won't eat Halloween candy, but I'll eat Valentine's day candy.

I won't eat a bag of peanuts if they land on the ground, but if I catch them mid air, no problem.

And how many y'ats have boiled up a cabbage they caught in the Irish Channel?

And when did they start throwing moon pies in Nola? I've only been gone a couple years. I personally hate them, and usually give away the several dozen I catch during any random mobile parade. Especially the generic, ghetto pies.

Peanuts are a great Mardi Gras throw, as long as they're good quality, roasted, and salted.

Yep, except Louisiana has better food than the rest of the south. So I understand it there. Ever been to a low country boil? Lol.

Nothing has gone wrong in Mobile, and that's the oldest Mardi Gras in the Americas. Though they do run a much tighter ship over there, with military like precision (which I don't like).

Besides, at the MLK or Mamga parades, the generally throw the whole box, do you can see the expiration date.

I actually caught a coconut that wasn't drained one time. That shite was a weapon.

I don't think I can eat my Muses shoe.

Mobile has food throws, NOLA does not and for some reason the fact still remains

NOLA Mardi Gras >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> mobile

I agree 100%. I grew up on mobile, but didn't go back after moving to Nola. I've been in parades in both cities, was going to inherit spot on Mobile's satire parade, but turned it down. I've also drummed with the Wild Tchoupitoulas, and another Mardi Gras Indian tribe (and I'm white, btw). I have an emblem bead collection with an emblem from every Nola krewe. I fricking love Nola Mardi Gras. This isn't a troll, but an attempted conversation.

But as much as I love it, that doesn't mean the throws can't be improved. My favorite parades are parades that have unique throws (muses, krewe du veuix, Chewbaccus, Krewe delusion, etc).

Imo...

Nola >>>>> Mobile >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Metairie, Pensacola, Biloxi, or any other attempted carnival celebration.

I've caught moon pies and bags of chips off of floats. Some of the krews even have their own designed bags of chips.

Now, the truck parades, my god you will catch all kinds of food. Ramen noodles, fruit, etc.

Also, the clown cycles at the start of a parade will often hand out gum and tootsie rolls.

I haven't caught the truck parades in years. After Zulu, I'm either at Backstreet museum, st Ann, or drumming somewhere. But I'm glad to hear someone is mixing it up.
