My grandfather always told me I should never leave the house without a pocket knife, a clean handkerchief, and at least $60 in cash.

I have followed that advice to this day.

Anyone else get this advice? Anyone given a different list?

I've never needed to. $60 covers basically any cash needs I've ever run in to. Grandpa didn't have a debit card for everything else.

I can only think of two things, neither of which I remember someone telling me specifically....Cash of course, learned this before you could live on a debit card.

Pen...I love and hate this about myself, but even when wearing a T-shirt, I carry a pen when leaving the house. Be surprised how many times it comes in handy when you need one.
