My friend from college has been married for about ten years. Anyway his wife works for a small industrial contractor in Lake Charles. He told me over the weekend that she was caught by her employer stealing through payroll paying herself and her kids and disguising it under other names. He said there has been at least 300 checks written illegally. He is devastated obviously. The employer is giving her the chance to pay it back but it's over 200k which they don't have. What kind of time or penalties is she looking at?

A year or two max IMHO. Maybe even probation if prosecuted....
However, if the employer is allowing her to pay it back maybe they don't file against her? But then again that's an oft used tactic to try to recover the funds before prosecuting.

You need to tell your friend his wife clearly has a cocaine/gambling problem.

Delete this thread. Find a real attorney, and discuss your options before agreeing to anything. 200k is a lot of money, and she will probably do it again. You should think about what is best for you and your kids.
