Any suggestions for this place? It's a family member's (kinda distant) wedding, and I didn't even know South Padre Island existed until I got the invitation.

I enjoy South Padre Island. It's not close to as trashy as some spots on the Gulf coast.

I've noticed this through googling. Apparently it's a hot spot for Spring Break debauchery.

As to locale of the wedding, did the Wedding Party lose a bet? Frick SPI. All the charm of a Bus Station.

Glad it's you, not me, I'd be a no-show.

Cafe on the Beach for nicer seafood
Dirty Al's for grungy seafood
Gabriella's if you like craft beer
Coconuts to watch the sunset
Manuel's in Port Isabel for breakfast tacos (this is a must)
Yummy's or Grapevine for quick breakfast

ETA - If you want to be a true beach tourist...Louie's has a buffet where you can over eat, then go carts, bungee jumps, etc. where you can go to throw up what you just ate.

The food at South Padre Brewing sucks and the beers are hit or miss.

I've been spoiled the past few years with some friends who live in Watercolor and have a few places in Rosemary Beach for hosting clients. I'm a snooty rich kid without any money behind me.

I'm not sure how I feel about this trip. At first I was most excited about going because the border was right there but after reading about how dangerous Matamoros is, I've decided against going there.

still can't believe rovann's closed down. fricking GOAT hangover donut spot

d'pizza joint, jake's and liam's are some good dining spots. you can also get some legit AF sammiches at feldman's

good call on coconuts, amberjack's is another good bayside spot as is louie's.

blackbeard's is a 'fancy' place to dine, good food but you're usually looking at a good 30 minute wait if not longer.

clayton's beach bar is near the end of the island by bahia mar (spring break 2002 roll call) good food, a rich man's prop stop

for fast food you're looking at whataburger (justaburgers for .99 if you need to conserve that beer money, kids) dairy queen and mickey d's, subway etc.

IGA blue marlin has all your grocery needs and supplies

worse case scenario, just walk down padre and gulf blvd, you'll find shite to do.

marcelo's in port isabel is a legit italian spot

ETA- if you want to go fishing turn right off the causeway and go to sea ranch, they do dolphin watches and all that good stuff too.

BurgerFi is good for a quick burger.

Wanna wanna is a good place for some overpriced drinks on the beach.

The sea turtle rescue place was really neat and sad because some of them were missing fins and shite.

We did a dolphin watch and actually did see a few so there's that.

Schlitterbahn is on the island as well.

Not sure if you have a room yet or not, but even if you have to get a place on the bay side, it's just a short walk to the beach.

ETA: there was a Valero gas station right by our place that had reasonable beer prices, but also there was a HEB on the way in Port Isabell.

Manual's is already mentioned. Wanna wanna fried shrimp is better than the main drag seafood joints. If you want a drink, try one of the smaller bay side bars like tequila sunset. It's not like rosemary beach. So prepare yourself. More like destin

If you are adventurous, go into one of the seafood markets, and have them make a fresh shrimp cocktail for you. And tell them yes, you do want it spicy.

Ended up eating blackbeards everyday because it wasn't too far from where we were staying and the food was pretty good and not terribly expensive. The other places we ate sucked. That's all I got.

This time of year won't be crazy. It becomes more of a fishing town in the summer after spring break. Blackbeard's is great if you bring in your own catch. Sea Ranch is good for higher end dining. The burgers at Padre Island Brewing don't suck. Isla Grand (used to be Radisson) had a very popular cocktail lounge/night club full of lonely older women (don't know if it's still there).
