The co-workers were talking about this Friday. South Louisiana is a catholic heavy populated area, but the LP isnt so really. One of them live in Watson and he comes to BR for Mass.

I've met some supposedly "religious" folks from that parish and when I mention them that Im catholic, they have something smart to say about it.

Lets talk.

We should deport all LP residents to Alabama.

And this has nothing to do with them not being Catholic.

The further south you go the more French/Italian/fringe UK rim influence there is.

French people and Italians and Irish are catholics. Main land britts are protestant.

I am Catholic too and I have never understood the insecurity that Baptists and Pentecostals have in regards to Catholics. They always have some smarted comment when they find out your Catholic. Where as Catholics could care one way or another what you are.

The Northshore was overwhelmingly protestant (except for the Italians) until the NOLA exodus. As for the LP, I expect it hews more closely to what the BR demographic was until the early 20th century. The plants brought in a more urban, lower middle class, blue collar population, which means more Catholics. The LP maintained its rural, white, protestant character until it became a commuter destination for BR.

The funny thing is, if it weren't for Catholics, Protestants wouldn't even exist.

Protestants are to blame for white guilt. I'm proud to be Catholic.

The irony of the whole thing is that it's like someone with muscular dystrophy threatening to beat down a guy with Lou Gehrig's disease. They are both being ridiculous because both of them are approaching the issue through an equally distorted and faulty grid system of understanding and belief.

I grew up Baptist and always found this laughable considering the Catholic Church basically codified and created the Christian religion from whole cloth. Of course the whole belief system is laughable in retrospect now.
