My grandfather used to talk about how, in the Brusly/Addis area, if a black man spoke to a white woman in an inappropriate manner, they would tie him to a car bumper and drag him out of town.

South Carolina is as bad as Mississippi when it comes to ignorant redneck racist Bible thumpers.

This is some fricked up shite though. I wonder why this story isn't as well known as Emmitt Till's.

South Carolina in 1944.

There were other things going on in other parts of the world at that time that overshadowed this. Plus, the civil rights movement hadn't really gotten going yet. So, this story is sort of lost to history for the most part.

I don't recall this being in any history class I've ever taken in nearly 20 years of education.

I don't recall any looting after, either.

Yes, but I have to wonder how much good it does to keep bring up this kind of stuff over and over.

Dunno.

They ran a story about this locally some months back. The victims family isn't exactly sympathetic to the 14 year olds family.

Instead of, "Hands up, Don't shoot" it was, "I didn't kill dem bitches, don't flip the switches."

They have their reasons. Just because the kid's case was fricked doesn't mean he didn't bash their heads in.

Please note that the judge only tossed it on due process grounds and specifically stated she was not ruling on the merits.

Mr. Rideau's conviction was tossed in the same way for the same reasons and there was no fricking question he did it.

Of course, now that everyone involved is dead, I would not hold my breath on that new trial.

Granted. I've read about someone else giving a deathbed confession to murdering them. It was a white guy.

Twenty years earlier, this kid would have probably been lynched. According to Wiki, the family had to leave town or they would have been lynched. So many things were so backward back the .
