The school announced the outage about 4:15 p.m. and said later that night that it was expected to last four to five hours. Classes were also cancelled Tuesday night.

All on-campus personnel and residents were asked to take overnight essentials and be out by 7 p.m.

People were encouraged to go to stay with friends and family, if possible. SMU also opened Highland Park United Methodist Church for shelter.

Initially, HPUMC wasn't an option, just told their students to get out of their dorms and find somewhere to go. Also don't think HPUMC can host 3000 kids. Not a good look for SMU

Is the bar or a friend's house not somewhere to go?

They could literally go anywhere

When they announced the closure, HPUMC was not an option at that point.

They're SMU students, I'm sure most of them can afford hotels with no issue.

A. I'm sure SMU has a ton of kids on scholarship, especially those living in dorms.

B. That's beside the point if they can afford a hotel or not. SMU basically told them to grab their shite and get out. What if someone told you that you 40 minutes to grab your essentials from where you live and get the frick out. Would that be okay with you?

C. It's also storming outside. I saw a couple of kids eating at Mockingbird Station and they were soaked.

You want to come set the record straight, since you seem to know so much?

Plenty of bars, malls, restaurants, etc in the area for shelter from the rain. I live right down the street.

Those young adults must not be that smart if they decided to eat at Mockingbird Station during a storm.

Even if they can't go inside a campus building, there are places they can go for shelter.

They told them to bring overnight supplies. You want them to chill at a bar or the mall all fricking night?

Y'all are some dumbasses if you don't see the fricking problem here.

So 9 PM? When can they get back? I doubt they told these kids to leave just for shits and giggles. Probably a safety risk or something.

The article is 2 short and vague paragraphs. I'll wait to rush to judgement until the full reason why is released.
