Small towns where it's cool in summer and cheap to rent (ideas?)

Another 100 degree day yesterday. I've had enough and I'm getting the f out of here for some of the summer next year.

Thinking about just renting a house up north somewhere for July or mid-July-mid August. Everywhere is going be a long drive, but the NE is too far.

I'm thinking more like Wisconsin and possibly Idaho (since I have family there). Not looking for anything touristy which = expensive. Basically, just plan on living and working like usual and doing weekend stuff.

Anyone have some small towns they'd recommend? Pretty scenery nearby would be good. Not interested in being in a big city.

Probably somewhere in Wisconsin or Michigan. Good luck in the winter if you ever stick around for it.

I used to live in northern Illinois. Not really LCOL even though the summers are usually pleasant. They do sometimes get in the 90s.

Williamette Valley in Oregon has a lot of small towns too. Many are far enough from Portland to be away from the crazy. Very pretty area.

There are tons of cheap places in the Rust belt. You may have to deal with meth.

On Caleb Hammer's videos he talks about his rentals in Kalamazoo, which is a college town, and rent is cheap.

Looks like this week Kalamazoo maxes out at 80 and the lows are in the high 50s

How cool is southern Appalachia during summer? I have only been during fall and winter TBH.

I would pick something like Wyoming or Montana personally. Since you are in Louisiana maybe South Dakota?

This is a great idea. The summers are oppressive lately. Not sure where you are but mountain areas work too, Ruidoso, NM is beautiful and cool in summer. Michigan is a great idea or any area near Great Lakes. I think Milwaukee is a great summer town and the lake is beautiful in that area.

If ruidoso is nice during summer (another place I’ve only been during winter) that would probably be my pick as well.

I'd ask the family about the weather baw.

I was in Driggs Idaho (nice quiet little town) west side of the Tetons two years ago in August and the temps during the day were in the upper 90's. Sure they do not have the humidity, but being outside during the day walking around and you work up a good sweat.

If you can find a place near or above 3000ft elevation, it will generally pleasant most of the time if not exactly “cool” around midday in July or August.

We have a place out in Bat Cave North Carolina, near Hendersonville / Lake Lure / Asheville. It gets warm out there, but would feel like a dream compared to 100 degree days. Average June-August temps have highs in the mid-low 80's with lows in the 60's. You'll get a couple of days that creep into the 90's, but they don't last long.
