Slowing down to look at a wreck

Why do people feel the need to do this? Curiosity maybe? I'm talking about those times when you sit in bumper to bumper traffic for an hour when the wreck is off to the side of the interstate. This shouldn't impede traffic. This actually happened on my way home from work yesterday

When it's on the same side of the road I feel most people slow down out of respect for the people and officers standing on the side of the interstate. So they don't blow by them at full speed.
But drivers who slow down and look when there's a wreck on the other side of the road need to die. Wrecks back up the interstate in both directions in shite arse Baton Rouge.

Happened to me on the way to the airport. Missed a flight because of it. The drivers were the type to go 40+ over the interstate limit and pass on the shoulder.
When I reached them I cut a promo on all of them and should have thrown a bottle of piss on their wreckage

People can easily turn their head at 70 mph as they can at 5 MPH. I don't get this either.
