Yeah the Zeiglers with the IGA, one of the first places to always do some good boiled crawfish. Calvin worked there forever as a kid. Doc had to practically twist his arm to sign on the dotted line for that debt load.. What kid that young wouldn't be scared?

Anymore? Compared to when? Pre-Katrina? The 90s? The 80s? People perceive crime to be worse than ever in today's America despite the fact it has been, for the most part, trending down over the past few decades. Yet people believe crime is the worst it has ever been due to the internet and 24 hour news coverage

Your entire post is ridiculous. This is the OT lounge on Tigerdroppings:the Poop on LSU sports. You came to the wrong forum if you're looking for everyone to be serious

Betty Smothers was working at Bocage IGA when Ziegler was the owner and Calvin was the General Manager. The manager on duty was Kimen Lee and she was shot 4 times and Betty Smothers was killed. Kimen drove the police unit to the then 7-11 at Lobdell and Jefferson Hwy which is now a Circle K and the girl on duty called 911.The store is now Calvins after Ziegler sold it to him and Dr. hill, who owns Bocage Village Shopping Center helped finance it because he didn't want. To lose the tenant.

thanks for the information. I've always wondered if it was the now Calvin's or not. Calvin is a great guy, always super nice when I'm in there and runs a first class store.

Baton Rouge Crime Post Katrina....

Maybe this will help you understand that my post did make sense, and a lot of it. Do your homework before you post next time.....

First, it isn't 2010, is it?

Second, this has been discussed and proven 1000x on here along with the bias. Feel free to search for Speedy's posts on it. Also, I think you'll find BR's estimate population interesting following the storm LINK

But I'll be more than happy to give you a lesson when I'm at a computer

Since you like the advocate:
LINK

Feel free to gander at it decade by decade too

and here is the point: Crime has been terrible in BR for decades

No one has any more info on this incident?

So attempted car jacking gone bad ? No suspect? Nothing else released yet? Just curious, know a lot of people in this area.

Your details are a lot better than mine. As BR changes, people that were not around then, get a bit off track.

I've not been to Does in its present incarnation but that area of Baton Rouge has been colorful since the 80's. It's close enough to historically high crime areas to attract bold miscreants to visit, impart mayhem in the pursuit of plunder then scurry north quickly to the welcoming cocoon of their safe space.

But as the Betty Smothers and other incidents show, trouble can find you anywhere in Baton Rouge though it's less likely the further you get away from North Baton Rouge.

At one time my office and business was on Government St and several thefts and armed robberies later, I'm happy not to be tied to Mid-City anymore.

I appreciate the buffer zone Mid-City provides.

Prayers to the family.

Many of my friends are big on the mid city thing. Growing up here I know there is too much nearby danger for that place to really work.

I know a sweet, tiny girl that was attacked with a gdamn hammer at the drugstore on the corner of Acadian and government.

I know I know crime happens everywhere.

It is one thing when the animals are killing each other, I really don't give two fricks if two multi convicted felons shoot each other during a drug deal, but when they start shooting taxpayers something needs to be done. If a guy can't take his wife and kid to eat a steak without getting shot it is bad.

The Government street road diet will fix all of these things.

Totally agree. This is what has changed about crime in BR, the manner and location crimes like these are being comitted is disturbing. Our new mayor will solve everything.

It's the only job Calvin has ever had. He started bagging groceries there when he was in 9th grade at Westdale Junior High School.
