NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - A series of car break-ins at the Riverwalk parking lot has visitors on edge.

Paul and Pam Nelson are in town for the Shania Twain concert scheduled for Monday night.

They planned an extended weekend stay at the Four Seasons hotel, but their factory-lifted GMC truck was too tall for the hotel garage and needed to be parked in the open lot a few blocks down.

The Nelsons checked on their truck Sunday morning to find they were victims of one of about 10 break-ins overnight. They say they love visiting New Orleans, but something needs to be done about this crime trend.

“They made a report and gave us an incident number but they all really told us this is happening about one a week. So, we have to have a little better security for that when we come to visit,” Paul Nelson told Fox 8. “We just need to find a solution for New Orleans because we love coming here and we want to come back, but this definitely doesn’t make you want to.”]

The Nelsons say they just purchased that truck about 6 months ago. They are in the process of fixing their window Sunday afternoon and plan to leave as scheduled after the concert.

Ex Bro-in-Law was one of 15 cars broken into in Gatlinburg, TN Hotel Parking Lot (2 weeks ago).

Yeah, unrelated but just another example of America's issues getting worse.

It wouldn't happen because the hotel wouldn't have a parking garage.

Should've gone with the safer bet in catching her in The Woodlands.

I used to stay in the CBD/ quarter area often for work trips but stopped that since the car breaks have gotten out of control. I know multiple people that have come back to busted out windows in the last 6 months.

Not worth the trouble.

It's been about 9 months, but I was in town for a Saints game weekend, and my car was broken into near Peche (on Julia just a block or two closer to the Dome/Smoothie King arena). Thankfully, nothing of value was in there/stolen. Just had to deal with the mess and get a new window.

If only the perps actually had to spend some time in jail and face some sort of consequences, these incidents may not occur as often.

I would imagine at this point the only people that would actually want to go to New Orleans either are liberal and believe that the folks doing this are only a small few and they aren’t all bad or they have their head buried in the sand and just blindly go through life and they only see rainbows and butterfly’s everyday.

It’s a small price to pay for some Poboys and festivals.

People who live in Baton Rouge who continually bitch about NOLA, but don’t realize their own shithole doesn’t have major league sports or any concerts worth going to occurring there.

Spend the extra $100 and visit NOLA in a rental. Pay the extra insurance.
