2. $43 Million On A Gas Station… In Afghanistan
The Department of Defense spent $42,718,739 million on a single gas station in Afghanistan that would pump natural gas in the hopes the country wouldn’t have to rely as heavily on imported fuel.

I think we also spent 30-40 million on a training center in Afghanistan that was never used. It had stadium seat classrooms, offices, etc. We basically built it then left.

Not sure on the cost analysis for the post-office-turned-hotel, but that will actually generate revenue. That is certainly a lofty price tag, but I imagine it has the ability to make back some money

I wish there was some type of data on things the government builds that ends up not being used.

Alabama just went through restructuring the tax break for restoring historical buildings. The article actually said that for every dollar in the tax break, $4 is returned on the restoration and revenue during the renovation not to mention taxes generated afterwards.

When private money is transferred to Government, it sheds all the greed and selfishness that is attached to it, and gains moral capital and social meaning. So I reject the idea that it is "wasted". Only the Government can spend our money morally and efficiently. And what is a "tax" really, but money that was only in private hands too long. Or something I heard Bernie say. Can't remember.

I don't think the cultural state department one is that bad. Believe it or not but it does help in another ways, especially if they're targeted in troubled areas.

I would say for Louisiana to be broke buying boats for game wardens with 4 300hp outboards is pretty wasteful

Actual cost to build that stadium was probably $10 million and the $20-30 million extra went into someone's pockets

Bre is good people but #1 is utter crap. If there were not those types of offsets for historic buildings we'd just tear them all down because it would be cheaper.

Truth!

That's what happens when you elect people with no experience in their fields that get to nominate people with no experience in the fields of the sectors they're going to "govern".
