Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, or ADHD, “is a prime example of fictitious disease,” said Leon Eisenberg, the “scientific father of ADHD,” shortly before he passed away at the age of 87 in 2009.
“Let’s go back 50 years. We have a 7-year-old child who is bored in school and disrupts classes. Back then, he was called lazy. Today, he is said to suffer from ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder). . . . Every child who’s not doing well in school is sent to see a pediatrician, and the pediatrician says: “It’s ADHD; here’s Ritalin.” In fact, 90 percent of these 5.4 million kids don’t have an abnormal dopamine metabolism. The problem is, if a drug is available to doctors, they’ll make the corresponding diagnosis.”
Today in the U.S., one out of every ten boys aged 10 years old takes some form of medication for ADHD every day.

The diagnosis is very different today vs. early 90's.

I said the exact same thing a couple of months ago and was crucified on this board. I've known this shite since I was in 3rd grade and all the shitheads started taking their "medicine" at recess.

EXTREMELY over-diagnosed. Literally any kid could go in and be diagnosed with ADHD because they can't sit still for a few hours. Kids need more recess at school

ADHD is definitely an actual disease.
It's been extremely over diagnosed in the last decade for various reasons. And there are definitely parents who push for that diagnosis with doctors who enable the hell out of it.

ADHD medicine is what spawned the epidemic of being allergic to peanuts.
neither was around 30 years ago.

Except the brains of children who have ADHD as a whole are quite different from those who do not. There are distinct differences in the prefrontal cortex, which has to do with organization, attention and planning, impulsivity, and higher order thinking.

I used to believe that it was a bullshite made up thing.
Then I married my wife. She's truly got ADHD. I've seen it in action too many times to think it's not real. She is an extremely disciplined person who was an honor student. She's the farthest from lazy as can be. But her brain struggles to stay focused. She can flash through 80 different thoughts in a blink. Sometimes she'll be in the middle of telling me something and wander off down a rabbit hole that ends up at a completely different place. Every now and then she'll go back and explain to me how she got from point A to B. It's CRAZY how many thought calculations go on in her head at light speed.
Sure, I think ADHD is VERY over diagnosed. My wife is a PA and she says it's way over diagnosed.
But, just like this ridiculous anti-gluten nonsense, the craze is based in some small percentage of fact.

I am dyslexic. I have been around a lot of "adhd" kids in my life
There types that just to run out their energy and aren't ADHD. Adderall is just speed and helps you focus to these people.
Then there are people who are ADHD. These people can't focus on anything for more then a second. Adderall makes them normal

I'm not sayin ADHD is complete BS, but a good old-fashion arse whoopin would cure many of these kids. That and to actually spend time with your kids instead of sticking an ipad in front of them in a restaurant and appeasing them by putting cartoons on everytime they get in the car.

Plenty of other scientists and studies disagree with him. It seems like the people most butthurt about ADHD are the ones that don't have it. Which blows my mind.
I guess dyslexia is BS too. Just make a kid read over and over and it will eventually solve itself, right?

No shite.
Its the result of gullibility, laziness, and childishness.
Gullibility in trust everything and "scientist" says.
Laziness of doctors and parents who dont want to work harder to discipline their children and stop feeding them shite and media.
Childishness in that anytime you point out the flaws in the idea of it being a disease you are immediately attacked as "I understand its overdiagnosed but no I/my child really does have it." Also, no one wants to admit their child may not be a darling baby Einstein
