Pretty sure the "foam" in my truck seat is better than what's on a school bus.

Have you been on a modern school bus lately?

Nope

I just have a hard time believing a kid face planting himself into the seat in front of him is better than NOT being restrained.

I just think this is a silly thing to complain about really. Buses are extremely safe and there have been a lot of reasons why what they are using right now is good.

I think this is one issue that people have actually solved.

They should also be required to stay off of the freeway when not loaded with kids. Safety hazard

Plus I like watching the videos of all of the kids hitting the ceiling when the bus goes over a bump

Sensors are not accurate due to variations in kids size and the kids placing heavy school bags on seats.

Has literally nothing to do with a seatbelt sensor. If we're adding airbags, then you're on track

ETA: assuming you set it to buzz if it unlatched at all

Do you have a solution that would fix the issue of kids misusing their seat belts, or kids who are two small and underdeveloped for lap belts?

No I don't. All of your points may be 100% valid and I know there isn't an "idiot proof" system.

Maybe make the kids wear one of those "fat sumo wrestling" get-ups so they'll bounce easier

I've never understood why they don't have seatbelts tbh.

When I used to work in news there was a small run of school bus accidents. 05-06ish

We asked that same thing to the school district and the response we got was something along the lines of the "egg crate design" was more effective stopping typical bus injuries w/o belts.

It sounded like a bullshite way to cut costs but that was what they were pushing back then.
