SAN FRANCISCO (TND) — An ordinance suspending San Francisco's Cannabis Business Tax was unanimously approved by city supervisors Tuesday.

San Francisco Supervisor Rafael Mandelman, the ordinance's author, said in a statement suspending the business tax on cannabis will help support legal cannabis retailers as they struggle to compete with illegal cannabis sellers.

This also tells me that San Francisco tourism is probably dead

In Washington and Oregon the dealers are R.I.P., except those to minors. Reasonable taxation, retail, and production laws have pretty much wiped out most of the black market. California got greedy with taxes, as per usual.

Perfect example of why the “legalize and tax the hell out of it” crowd are misguided. Legalize it and enjoy your sales and income tax bump, but don’t be greedy. If you heavily tax it, you won’t put the dent in the black market that you should.

Very conservative of the OT to be cheerleaders for taxing lawful business operations

Conservatives usually have zero issues with reasonable taxes, especially sin taxes. Libertarians are the ones that have issues with legalized theft.

They should abolish all taxes so companies can compete.

I'm surprised storefront overhead doesn't hurt, too.

I'd probably just do a dispenser that delivers, just be a legal dealer.

The quality from dispensaries is the best of the best. It seems people would be willing to pay a little extra for that alone.

What were their tax rates?

I've always been a fan of legalizing weed to tax it, but I'm also a fan of frick taxes.

You think dealers can’t get it from where the dispensaries do?

I wonder if they thought about fixing the problem by finding and shutting down the illegal sellers.

Who would have thought that greedy corporations and government officials would price gouge?!?

Same situation here in MA. Dispensary prices are outrageous not even including taxes. Buds be like National Lampoon Christmas Turkey.

The gray/black market is substantially cheaper for usually FAR better quality. That’s what I’ve been told anyways.

Watching the urban governments trying to govern with the left hand reminds me of an errant, obstinate toddler who doesn’t learn from natural consequences.
