... defense official warns

quote:

RUSSIA could steamroll NATO forces in just 60 hours, a leading US defence official has warned amid rising tensions with the west.
The alarming claim comes as Russia has deployed troops westward as part of its ongoing stand-off with NATO.
US Deputy assistant secretary of defence for Russia, Ukraine, and Eurasia Michael Carpenter
told a Senate Foreign Relations Committee hearing that the West and NATO were currently not ideally prepared to deal with a Russian threat.
He said Russia had a massive geographical and time advantage but by 2017 the US would be in a better position to defend its allies.
The warning over increasing Russian aggression comes just four months after non-profit global policy think tank RAND raised “concerns about its larger intentions” and speculated Russian forces could reach those areas in 60 hours.

quote:

TENSIONS RISE
NATO is taking part in a war games exercise in Poland intended to shore up security on the alliance’s eastern flank.
The 10-day exercises come as member states have been spooked by Russia’s increasingly assertive actions.
Nineteen NATO member nations and five partner nations are contributing troops to the exercise that will train and test their swift joint reaction to threats on land, sea and in the air.
The exercises are certain to increase tensions between the two sides with Russia deploying its troops westward, Reuters reported.

You posted something a few weeks back about the US not being able to do what is said in the quoted text above.

You obviously had some involvement with the military.

Do you honestly feel that Russia is going to do any of this shite you post about? Or are you just a paranoid defense freak?

And what's the likelihood of this happening?

Also, what happens after 60 hrs? They just bust into Eastern Europe and remain unopposed?

Maybe it's because of my time in Germany during the cold war days of the 80's. I was literally right on the border where they were supposed to come in, the Fulda Gap. But I don't trust the bastards. They've spent the last decade building up an army for a reason. And there's only one use for such an army.

Why is that our problem? We need to stop policing the world and let other countries defend themselves. If we aren't directly threatened, stay the frick out of it

We spend a ridiculous amount more on military than anyone else in the world. Does that mean we're going to invade Canada?

Honestly, no idea. but it's better than it was about 20 years ago.

If it started tomorrow, it would take us a good two months at least before we had a strong enough force built up in Europe to have any influence on the battlefield. Basically, it would be over before we were in a position to do anything about it. It's like I've said time and again on here. Europe is all but undefended right now. Ideally, Europe should see to this matter themselves.

Darth, if you knew a single fricking thing about military history you'd know that this isn't any breaking news. It's been this way since the end of WWII.

Exactly. But those dipshits don't want to spend money on their military, bitch at us about ours but then cry to us for help when they need military intervention. We need to tell them to get their shite together and leave them to defend themselves

Who is "us"? I would think NATO would be able to establish air dominance while a ground force was being assembled.

tactical nukes

that's the fall back position and Russian leaders know it.

note the use of the phrase "nuclear artillery". those can shoot the tactical nukes". I remember when nuclear artillery were tested in Maryland.
