quote:

Russia ratified a treaty with Syria on Friday that gives Moscow its first permanent air base in the Middle East, a symbol of the Kremlin's desire to project strength overseas, as Russian officials considered renewing other Soviet-era bases in Cuba and Vietnam. Friday's developments were largely symbolic: With the onslaught of Russian airstrikes in Syria, Moscow has left no doubt about its commitment to the regime of President Bashar al-Assad; there's no clear evidence that Cuba or Vietnam would be open to the return of the Russian military. But it's clear that Moscow is acting on bringing to life President Vladimir Putin's vision of Russia as a global military power at a time when tensions between Moscow and Washington are as high as they've been since the Cold War.

I remember when Biden and Obama laughed at the idea of Russia being a problem just a few years ago.

Russia has the right to pursue their own national interests. They don't need to bow down to Ghetto USA or anybody else.

You think he began normalizing relations with Cuba because he wanted a cigar? it was step one in preventing Russia from reestablishing itself in Cuba.

Let's remember that many Cubans are angry with Russia for dropping its foreign aid to Cuba after the USSR fell. The US could turn a former enemy into a friend if we play it out correctly

Let's also remember Obama took a trip to Vietnam and ate a little crow so that we could be better positioned to influence Vietnam against siding with Russia

Geopolitics isn't about bombing the shite out of your enemies, it's about moving chess pieces into place that will give you a tactical/economic advantage.

“Gov. Romney, I’m glad you recognize al-Qaida is a threat, because a few months ago when you were asked what is the biggest geopolitical group facing America, you said Russia, not al-Qaida,” Obama said. “You said Russia. And the 1980s are now calling to ask for their foreign policy back. Because the Cold War has been over for 20 years. But Governor, when it comes to our foreign policy, you seem to want to import the foreign policies of the 1980s, just like the social policy of the 1950s, and the economic policies of the 1920s.”

Obama has turned this board and others into a haven for red blooded American Pussies. Big men who cry like pussies and look at Russia and Putin in admiration. It would be sad if it weren't so pathetic.

They (USSR) did this back in the 80s and it didn't work out so well for them. This is what you do to cover up an economic crisis: resort to policies designed to encourage nationalism.

Not to mention bombing your own cities to start a war with Chechnya. Russia did this in the 90's as well to foment Putin's election. It's nothing new about Russia to those who are informed and not choking on their own testosterone.

and there is really no reason for Vietnam to openly welcome Russia to open a base. It wouldn't make any sense for them.
