Dude was a kindred spirit who wrote the soundtrack for a good couple years of my tenure at LSU, and was an inspiration for countless others.

Poets may not last forever, but their poetry does.

“Reach out your hand, if your cup be empty. If your cup is full, let it be again. Let it be known. There is a fountain, that was not made, by the hands of men.
There is a road. No simple highway. Between the dark and the dawn of night. And if you go, no one may follow. That path is for, your steps alone”

I had a feelin' I was fallin', fallin', fallin',
I turned around to see,
Heard a voice al callin', Lord you was commin' after me.

And of course... Jerry's goodbye

When the last bolt of sunshine hits the mountain
And the stars seem to splatter in the sky
When the moon splits the south west horizon
And scream of an eagle on the fly

I will walk alone by the black muddy river
And listen to the ripples as they moan
I will walk alone by the black muddy river
Sing me a song of my own

RIP to one of the all time great lyricist.

A poet he certainly was, his great grandfather was Robert Burns (I think I remember hearing that anyway)

"Black Muddy River" is one of the finest lyrical works of the last 50 years.

RIP.

Brown-eyed women and red grenadine,
The bottle was dusty but the liquor was clean.
Sound of the thunder with the rain pouring down,
And it looks like the old man's getting on.

Top ten favorite songs, but not sure he wrote that one.
