Roatan vacation ideas

The wife and I and trying to put together a vacation for ourselves and our 9 & 11 year old kids.
She went to Roatan last summer with friends and loved it, so we're wanting to bring the kids as they love the beach and snorkeling.
Our planning is in the elementary stages, so any advice or recommendations from others that have been is greatly appreciated.
So far we've found a 3 bed/2bath on the beach for for $1200 for 5 nights, which seems very reasonable.

Just spent a week there. 2/17 thru 2/24
You can find places much cheaper. What area do you want to stay in?
West end?
West bay?
Sandy bay? We like sandy bay.

You can find really good Caribbean vacation deals on groupon.

The wife says she liked west bay because the reef was right there. Is sandy bay about the same?

it's an amazing spot. be sure to ask about the electricity costs and if they are included. they could eat you alive as all power on the island is diesel generated and very expensive. power is normally charged on the occupants usage and is separate from the rental fee if you are renting a house.
they're are resorts right on the beach that do scuba and snorkeling. i went the Italian operated one, they were awesome. i can't remember the name of the outfit though.
it would be a great family vacation spot.

Plenty of places in sandy bay have beachfront snorkeling.
West bay is more expensive and more commercialized. Taxis to west bay are the most expensive. Depends on what your looking for. Electricity is high. Some rentals give you an allowance. Renting a car can be expensive also.

Highly recommend this shark tour:

That looks amazing, I'd love to bring my offspring on an uncertified submarine 1700' deep with a dead horse.

I have heard amazing things about Little French Key, planning on going when my cruise stops there in June.

We always stay at Las rocas dive resort. It's a bunch of bungalows that have ac and all. We really love it though--price is 500 per ish and includes scuba cert

She doesn't have the number of the guy she stayed with last summer?

We stay on West End Bay. If you can afford a place there it's the place to be. Plenty of restaurants and bars a short walk away on the beach. Will be back there the first week of June.
The beach is very nice. There are tons of things to do on the island.

Stay as far away from the east end as humanly possible. Lots of main land crime going to that side. . Infinity bay resort should have some vacation rentals. It has very very good snorkling right off the beach.. have you looked at flight costs? Generally not cheap to fly into there. West Bay beach resorts will have best off beach snorkling. But no beach is private so you get panhandlers.
