I have found this gated golf community near Scottsdale. It looks affordable and fits the retirement lifestyle that is being sought. Anyone know anything about it?

I don't, but I think you've come to the right place for advice. I know if I were looking for a retirement community I would value the input of a bunch of cynical 20 and 30 somethings.

Looks like you would have to drive over 30 minutes just to get to the main areas of Scottsdale.
I bet it's pretty out there though.

You will have a decrease in your symptom severity from your allergic rhinitis.

Very pretty area and definitely off the beaten path. I live in the Troon-area- which is in far North Scottsdale- and Rio Verde is a good 20 minutes beyond that to the east and just north of Fountain Hills. Lots of midwesterners/snowbirds with decent golf, from what I've heard.

I lived in Phoenix for 12 years. I had sinus problems the entire time. The doctor said when people retired and moved to Phoenix, they brought plants from all over the country. There was something to aggravate everyone.
I never had those problems anywhere else in this country.
You need to visit the area for a while to see how it suits you. Visit in the summer while it is really hot to see if you can handle the heat.
If you look up temperature averages, they are usually averaged over the last one hundred years. Most of the extreme records were set in the last 25 years, so the current temps now average higher than the hundred year averages.
Notice the 110 degree days record set recently....
The winters are very mild. Phoenix is centrally located to Los Angeles, San Diego, Tucson, Las Vegas, Sedona and the Grand Canyon.
If you need a list of sights to see, contact me after you decide to move there.

I got really sick a couple times right after I moved to AZ and have heard the same happening for others.
But I've been here 10 years now and no serious chronic sinus issues. And I'm around a whole slew of contagious respiratory illnesses at work.

Why would one want to live in a place that is that hot so much of the time?
Posted on 1/27/16 at 5:46 pm to LSUwag
Cause the rest of the year is amazing weather.
It's 73 and nothing but sunshine outside right now.
Also....it's very easy to escape the heat. You can easily drive 2 hours north and be in areas with highs of low 80s in the summer.

Some of us thrive in hot weather. I can barely tolerate Louisiana winters.

That's why warmer climates have more retirement communities. As you age you cannot tolerate the cold as well. As long as you have adequate AC in your home and car you are fine.

Off-topic, but I noticed the bottle of Knob Creek in your picture.
