re: Riddle: What can a clock with hands tell you that a digital one cannot?

Digital clocks do this in reverse using simple math. They tell us when the power came back on. Clocks with hands can't, they can tell us how long the power was out though.
So I call that a wash.

They don't bury the survivors.

But they can tell you something about power outages that digital clocks cannot. Even with that math! That math can only tell you one thing for sure about the outage...and that is a big clue.
What is it?

Exactly what time the power went out, to the second

I already stated, see my edited post. How long the power was out (assuming less than 12 hours)

Hands show you when it went out, digital shows how long it's been back on. Using a little math shows how long it was out.
I don't know what you want

Ok. Your edit worked.
You are correct. That was the answer I was looking for.
Digital clocks tell you when power was last restored.
Clocks with hands tell you how long power was off!
Great responses guys!
Have a good mornin'!

Morbid, but true, story...
We used this technique to determine the date of my fathers death.
He always wore a self-winding watch, which would stop after a few days of inactivity. He had an in home accident leading to his death a few years back, and was found a few days after he had died. They had logged the time and date on the watch before they removed it from his arm.
We "wound" the watch back up and left it sitting to see how long it took to stop...it told us he had been dead for 3 days.

We talked about power restoration.

This isn't really a riddle is it?

Good point. But you would have lack of clarity on either clock for that, so it doesn't matter.
