If you have RFID credit/debit cards, you can ask your provider for magnetic strip only cards or you can make your own shielding out of duct tape and aluminum foil. The consumer report reviews say it's better that 8 out of 10 of the RF shielded wallets they tested. Look at the video demo.

Possibly, but not likely. I had just gotten there too. I flew into Newark, went to the hotel (the rental car was already there), and then drove into New York. I had a car service bring me from the airport to the hotel so the only time I pulled my wallet was to check into the hotel.
