Anyone ever capitalize on a reward for finding a dog or pet or other stuff? Did you actually keep the reward money or tell them “no thank you, just keep the reward money”? If you kept it how much was it?

Unless the person giving the reward was mega fricking rich I'd never accept a reward for that.

I wouldn't accept a reward if I found a pet and returned it. I might ask them to donate any reward to a shelter though, and hope that they do, or if it was insisted I take it, I would donate it myself.

I've never found a lost pet, but I wouldn't take the money. It's not like I would be out actively looking for the thing anyway. It's really just as simple as doing the right thing. You find the pet and take 5 seconds to return it, not like it would be a burden.

I really wouldn't feel comfortable accepting a cash reward, unless if they really insisted. Then like another poster said, I'd probably donate it to a shelter.
Now if the reward is a case of beer, I'll gladly accept.

Working outside as I did for many years, I found many lost pets.
One morning I found 3 cat heads scattered around the property.

I've only accepted a reward once, because there was an obvious language barrier and I didn't want to offend them.

Never really called it a reward. The police report always noted it as ransom.

The wife and I have reunited several pets with their owners over the years.
Almost every time it was a Lost pet that had just escaped, therefore the owners never had time to begin considering posting "reward if found" notices.
We have never been offered anything other than a genuine " thanks" mixed in with an excuse like " we need to keep that gate locked".
However,on one occurrence, my wife was given some flowers by a bonafide gay guy days after she returned his miniature poodle.

Whenever I was 12 my brother and I were playing outside and saw a poster on a light pole for a $200 reward (very hefty for the time) for finding a lost dog. It was the June of 1984, so we had a ton of free time as school was out for summer break. We stayed up all night planning our mission and dedicated the two weeks to helping our neighbor find missing Fido and collect the fat payday to purchase whatever toy was in at the time.
The next morning, our father left for work and never returned. Also, we never found the dog.
Was a pretty shitty summer

I could never accept a reward but I once kind of had the opposite happen.
I had a stray kitten show up at my house that wouldn't leave. After about a week I had grown kind of fond of it so I took it to my vet and had them check it out and give it shots, etc. I spent $80 on that damn cat. About another week later I had a friend tell me that a family I knew of and lived a couple of miles away was missing a cat. This family had 2 girls about 8-10 years old so I took the kitten over there to ask if it was theirs. Turns out it was so I gave it back. While talking to the mom I casually mentioned that I had taken it to the vet and gotten shots, etc done that cost me $80. She quickly changed the subject and never paid me back.
