Bad idea?

Yes, if you try and beat the piece off you could make things worse not better.

You need to use a wrench to hold back on the elbow and another wrench to back out the old "nipple".

Stilson wrenches are best.;

Good advice. I will try that first.

If it is just a clogged screen, I guess I will try a vampire tap straight into the galvanized.

I want to formally thank you for saving me a lot of time and money. I removed the filter/aerator on the faucet and it was really clogged. Cleaned it out and it's gushing like a squirter.

Pex is best, it can freeze but expands then goes back into shape when it thaws. Rarely have to replace a busted Pex line. I recommend using the crimping tool.

Ok, so PEX is the flex sch. 40 tubing? good stuff that doesn't crack with freezing temps.

Options for fittings are the shark tooth push in fittings and compression but I'm not sure you can use compression on the PEX tubing.

If all this is under the house and not going to be overly exposed to the elements, PVC should do fine and the fittings are easy to find, cheap and easy to install. Take your time and dry fit everything before gluing or screwing.

Yes I really appreciate it. Have me more time to drink beer before the game. Now I am about to try the saddle valve straight on the galvanized. I will prolly frick everything up.
