You're never getting it back. They'll make up some non-existing damage and say they're keeping the deposit for that. They do this because the amount it will cost you in time and money legally would not equal the amount of the deposit. Apartment complexes are notorious for that shite.

I assume the OP did not take pictures before they move in and after they move out.
I've done that every time, and they'll still try to put it to me for some reason.
97.8% of people I've rented from have been assbags of the highest order.

usually in the contract, 30 days is pretty standard

Send him a written request ASAP. In LA, they have 30 days from there. Then you can take them to court.
