Redemptorist Closing

Read the article in The Advocate about Redemptorist closing due to declining enrollment. With the closure, that essentially leaves Catholic and St. Michaels as the only two options for Catholic high schools in town. With St. Jude and St. George being located in the southern part of the city, does any think that the Diocese may be considering a new Catholic school in the southern portion of the city/parish?

Change your thread title so that people waiting around all day to say germans won't

What about elementary catholic schools? Enrollment is down across the board bc families are moving out of the city. Will the diocese consolidate?

Bumped it up for you buddy. Don't mind the Germanic thread police but I figured you might find some good reading on the subject in the long thread.

Not sure if this is entirely true. May be true for Mercy and ST. Thomas Moore. However, St. Aloysious is expanding (I believe) and still turning kids away. From what I hear St Geotge and MBS are at max capacity as well.

My wife and I pulled our son from St Thomas More, and put him in central schools. My little girl is still in their preschool, but will probably go to the central schools also. We hope to have them back in catholic school by at least 4th or 5th grade. shite is expensive and st Thomas more teachers are crazy. St Alphonsus in central has lost a lot of teachers to Centrals public schools. They definitely won't go there.

Enrollment drops
At 5k per kid for 9 years (not including any extras or increases)
That's 45k. Two kids? 90k in elementary school. 4 years of 8k for high school per kid on top of that gets parents thinking that money might be better invested in a house out if city limits and a public school. The diocese is digging themselves a hole IMHO.

Couldn't happen to a nicer group of arseholes.
I know parents who send their kids there to get a compassionate Christian education then bitch and moan about vouchers. Blessed are the poor, wtf.
Crap school that no one will miss.

I agree 100%. I want my kids in catholic schools.. But the shite is expensive. It's not only the tuition, but all the other expenses involved. Living in Central makes it an easy decision.. For now

I'm well aware of the cost. You don't need to justify your decision for your family to me. My point is that although some of the Catholic Schools may be seeing drops in enrollment in the area it's not an across the board problem.
See Mr. Bennett's quote about St. Aloysius in the article that you linked. Yes there are schools in areas that are seeing drops in enrollment. These are the schools that are located in part of town that are changing for the worse. Sacred Heart, Redemptorist, St Francois Xavior. St. Thomas Moore would probably fall into this category if it weren't for the people in Livingston Parish that send their kids there.
I look forward to the $5k tuition because daycare is almost twice that amount.
