Quick thinking small town pharmacist turns table on robber

Man tried to rob a pharmacy in tiny Red Bay, Alabama. After convincing the robber to let the other employees go, the pharmacist told the robber he could have anything in the pharmacy. Of course he wanted drugs, so she gave him something to make him fall asleep.
He fell asleep, pharmacist takes the gun, and walks out. No one is injured. Man is arrested.

She got lucky he was so dumb
He should have known what the drugs he wanted looks like or at least googled the pills before he took them.

Why didn't he leave the pharmacy after getting the drugs? Why the hell did he take them and hang out? That link kinda glossed over that part of the story.
