I started off shooting an old Nikon 950 through the eyepiece, then moved onto web cam imaging and stacking the frames, finally to ccd and now CMOS dedicated cameras. On planetary you only have about 2-3 minutes before planetary rotation starts to blur details. The moon shot i posted was from a video taken with an ASI 1600 cooled. You can take and stack as many shots or video as you want on the moon since it doesn't rotate.

I own three scopes and have been into it for over twenty years. If you are interested in just casual use and have no interest in star hopping I would go for a 6" GOTO schmidt cassegrain. Enough aperture to give good views of dimmer objects but still portable enough to use regularly without feeling inconvenienced. If you live under light pollution do yourself a favor a few times a year and make the drive to a dark sky. Unbelievable the difference it makes. Main issue right now is to find equipment. Just like everything else the astronomy supply chain is all jacked to crap. Good luck!

I always wanted a telescope but then I thought years later I’d wonder why did I buy this thing. It always awesome to try new things.

Never owned a telescope but I've used an M2 Aiming Circle to lay the battery and shoot artillery with the Polaris Kochab method. That's all I got.....

Yeah I'm looking to sell it, as it doesn't get near enough use anymore as it should. Shoot me an email at my username at Gmail

BTW, if you are in Baton Rouge you can check out a dobsonian telescope at the library. I think you have to take a short class on how to use it first but it is a good way to try before you buy. Also, the Highland Road observatory has telescopes you can use. They are usually open weekend nights.
